 Who’s Unluckier: Hamels or Santana?
Who’s Unluckier: Hamels or Santana?
Last night, the Phillies outsmarted the Mets and scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning against the New York Mets bullpen, which squandered an eight-inning, two-run performance from Johan Santana. That got me to thinking: Who is more unlucky, Cole Hamels or Johan Santana?

OK, THIS IS not as good as it gets. It ain't love, but it ain't bad, as the song says. It's not as good as the final weekend of the 1980 regular season, when the Phillies went into Montreal tied for first with the Expos and had to win two of three ...

Philadelphia Phillies - If I Was Pat Gillick For A Day
Philadelphia Phillies - If I Was Pat Gillick For A Day
1. My starting rotation would look like the following: Cole Hamels Brett Myers Jamie Moyer Kyle Kendrick J.A. Happ Trade Adam Eaton or make him another righty in the bullpen to replace Tom Gordon. Tom Gordon should no longer be in the Phillies future. He is no Jamie Moyer . . . . . 2. I would either trade off Carlos Ruiz or reassign him to AA or AAA. Then bring up Lou Marson ...

 Leaders & Laggards: Pitcher LOB%
Leaders & Laggards: Pitcher LOB%
Today I’ll be taking a look at pitchers’ LOB%. As a point of reference, last year’s LOB% leader was Cole Hamels at 78.7%, while the laggard was Jose Contreras at 62.6%. So what this means is we should expect the current leaders to continue to regress a bit, but potentially settle into that high 70’s range, while it’s very possible that the laggards don’t improve at all as typically the bottom...

Phillies Extend Lidge
Lidge’s contract runs about the same length as some of the other core players: Chase Utley is signed through 2013, Jimmy Rollins is signed through 2011, Ryan Howard is under control (arbitration) until after the 2011 season, and Cole Hamels is under control until after the 2012 season. So, the Phillies should be competitive at least for the next two or three years.

Philadelphia Phillies - Atlanta Not So Brave
Philadelphia Phillies - Atlanta Not So Brave
The Philadelphia Phillies brought down the tee-pee in the Atlanta Braves series last night. The Phillies defeated the Braves in a 4-1 victory while displaying their prowess in their division by sweeping the Braves both times they met this year in Atlanta. Cole Hamels showed his ace status by pitching 8-2/3 innings while allowing 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and administering 7 strikeouts. The ...

Use That Arm Delicately
The Phillies swept the Braves in Atlanta once again, carried by starter Cole Hamels, who went eight and two-thirds innings, struck out seven and only allowed one run courtesy a ninth-inning, two-out RBI double from Brian McCann. He was one out away from a complete game shut-out, and it was obvious that manager Charlie Manuel was going to let Hamels attempt to get it. But was it a good decision?

King Cole leads Phillies to sweep
King Cole leads Phillies to sweep
It's amazing how quickly things can turn around. Heading into this week, things looked grim for the Phillies, who had lost 11 of their last 14 games and were losing their grip on first place. Now, following a three game sweep of the Braves, everything seems right again. Cole Hamels was the story of tonight's win.... Click the link for more, including highlights.

Don't Break It Down, Andy Cole
Don't Break It Down, Andy Cole
Ay Dios mio. We just stumbled across this...this...abortion dropped by former Manchester United star Andy Cole in 1999. It's his debut and hopefully last music single called Outstanding. Hopefully, that's supposed to be ironic. This stinks so bad it could "knock a buzzard off a crap wagon from 100 yards". Outstanding didn't even break the UK Top 40. Hopefully Sir Alex gave him the ...

Kendrick snaps Phils losing streak despite funky line-up
Kendrick snaps Phils losing streak despite funky line-up
It seemed like forever ago that Cole Hamels masterfully pitched the Phillies to a victory over the Red Sox. After losing six straight games, the Phils needed another masterful pitching performance, this time by Kyle Kendrick, to finally get another one in the win column, a 4-0 victory over the A's. Kendrick wasn't dominant, but he was effective.... Click the link for more...
