Jim Tracy of Colorado has won the NL Manager of the Year award and Mike Scioscia of the Los Angeles Angels has been selected for the AL honor. Tracy became the second manager to win the award after taking over in midseason, joining Jack McKeon for Florida in 2003. Scioscia also picked up the AL award in 2002. Tracy received 29 first-place votes and two seconds for 151 points in balloting released Wednesday by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Scioscia got 15 first-place votes.

With all due respect to the Cardinals' Tony La Russa, the National League Manager of the Year award was the easiest to choose in the bunch. On Wednesday, Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy was announced as the winner of the prestigious honor. A week after walking away, being told that their gloves are simply made of leather and not gold, the Colorado Rockies were finally recognized on Wednesday for their spectacular season. The choice was easy. Tracy took over for the fired Clint Hurdle on May 29th, when the Rockies were 10 games under .500 and already 15 games out of first place in the National League West race. At that point their 18-28 record was second worst in baseball, only better than the Washington Nationals. Tracy's impact was felt immediately. The Rockies have declined a $5 million option on right-hander Rafael Betancourt, a key setup man as the Rockies won the NL wild-card race. Betancourt can now become a free agent. Colorado general manager Dan O'Dowd says the team will continue to negotiate with the reliever. Betancourt went 4-3 with a 2.73 ERA in 61 games while splitting time with Cleveland and Colorado last season. He had 61 strikeouts to go with 20 walks and held opponents to a .209 batting average.

Anyone who watches baseball and has paid any attention to the Colorado Rockies knows that their is no argument for who has been the best at the shortstop position in the 17 years of Rockies baseball: Troy Tulowitzki. With all due respect to Walt Weiss, Tulowitzki has redefined what playing the position means. His range helps him field more balls than any other shortstop in the game, yet despite having more chances, he also had just nine errors. So, how will history look back on the first 17 years of Rockies baseball? The only Gold Glove shortstop to don purple pinstripes...none other than Neifi Perez. Gold Gloves are widely regarded as meaningless around baseball. Rockies reportedly ready to take offers for RF Hawpe

Sporting News staff reports The Colorado Rockies appear to be reversing themselves on right fielder Brad Hawpe. The New York Post reports the club will now listen to offers for Hawpe, who slumped in the second half of the 2009 season. General manager Dan O'Dowd has been insistent that he would not look to move Hawpe, who will make $7.5 million next season. Hawpe's numbers have been remarkably consistent the past four seasons. He has hit between 22 and 29 homers and, save for a 116-RBI season in 2007, has driven in between 84 and 86 runs every year.

Sporting News staff reports The Denver Post reports that right-hander Jason Marquis likely will leave the Colorado Rockies as a free agent, but that general manager Dan O'Dowd doesn't believe he'll need to spend big to replace the 15-game winner. O'Dowd tells the newspaper prospects Samuel Deduno, Esmil Rogers and Jhoulys Chacin are rotation options, as well as Greg Smith and Greg Reynolds, both of whom are coming off injuries. Colorado also expects former ace Jeff Francis to be ready after missing the 2009 season because of shoulder surgery. In other Rockies news, the Post speculates third baseman Garrett Atkins will be traded or non-tendered. He hit just .226 with nine homers and 48 RBIs this season.
