Grant Balfour, though he walked Manny Ramirez to
load the bases in the top of the eighth,
also got himself out of that sticky situation. Balfour induced a groundout from Mike Lowell to shortstop to end the inning. That keeps the score at 2-1, heading to the bottom of the eighth. Jason Varitek stays in to catch, with Craig Hansen on the mound in relief of Tim Wakefield.
