Justin Duchsherer is now 10-6 and a bonafide
All Star. In those 6 losses, the As managed
to score 3, 0, 2, 1, 0 and 1 run for him. 7 total runs in 6 losses. A month ago I would have said Cliff Lee should be the AL Cy Young front-runner. I am not sure anymore.
Next Sunday, Rich “Goose” Gossage will become the
fifth relief pitcher inducted into the National Baseball Hall
of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Gossage was the most feared reliever of his day and should have been inducted a few years earlier. The other four Hall of Fame relievers are Hoyt Wilhelm (class of 1985), Rollie Fingers (class of 1992), Dennis Eckersley (class of ...

With the Cubs, Brewers, and Phillies, all teams
that the Cardinals may be competing with for a
playoff spot, adding arms for a stretch run, the Cardinals are suddenly losing theoretical ground in the standings, even if their records says they're keeping pace. It's possible that they'll stay right in the race without a roster upgrade, but it just seems unlikely at this point. Fortunately for ..
Here are my grades for the Yankees so
far.
I went to Lake Elsinore tonight to watch
the rehab starts of Chris Young and Josh Bard
and came away encouraged. Chris pitched 3.2 innings on approximately 60 pitches, yielding two hits and striking out four. He did give up a homer to the final batter ...
Matt LaPorta has had a busy month. He
was traded from the Brewers organization to the Indians
for last year’s Cy Young winner, bringing all kinds of expectations on his shoulders. His luggage was lost on the way to Akron, and his cell phone ‘broke’. He lost his grandfather two days before taking part in the Futures game at Yankee Stadium...
The All-Star Break gives fantasy owners a chance
to rest and gives us a chance to hand
out some first half fantasy awards including MVP, Cy Young, Fireman Relief, Stud you may not know much about, and Major Disappointment.
I almost feel bad doing this. Almost. I've
liked Tim Lincecum ever since he pitched at the
University of Washington. But a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, and Lincecum proved Tuesday night that he is weak sauce. The kid, who just might win ...
The punk I speak of is Red Sox
closer Jonathan Paplebon, and it turns out that this
arrogant douchebag thinks he deserves to close tomorrow. From Peter Abraham : “If I was managing the team, I would close. … But I’m not managing the team,” he said today. Sam Borden and some of the other writers there asked Papelbon whether Mariano Rivera had earned the right to close. “I think we both ...
So far, the Major League Baseball season has
had several great stories like Josh Hamilton, Kerry Wood
and Ryan Ludwick, but as we cruise into the halfway point, who get's the midseason hardware. The usual suspects are at the top fighting for the first half MVP, CY Young and rookie of the year awards but I have a new prize to give out this year. So to kick things off, the first half awards go ...
Go ahead, try and argue. Doc threw his
7th Complete Game of the season last night in
shutting out the Yankees and looks poised to add a second Cy Young award to his mantle at the end of the year.
He's a Hall of Famer. But he's never
won a World Series, a Cy Young, or 20
games.
Barry Bonds, facing eventual Cy Young Award winner
Jake Peavy, flied out to center fielder Brady Clark
for the third out in the 6th inning of an 11-3 loss to the San Diego Padres. Seems pretty innocuous, considering the never ending list of accomplishments and accolades Bonds had compiled in his career. But it was significant. The date was September 26, 2007, and it was the last at-bat of ...
Volquez and Lee? I'd say Webb is still
the front-runner.
A big trade was announced yesterday that sent
2007 AL Cy Young Award winner C.C. Sabathia to
the Milwaukee Brewers for top prospect OF Matt LaPorta, P Zach Jackson, P Rob Bryson and a player to be named later (click on any of the three players for their numbers). Sabathia will become a free agent after this season and I think that the Yankees will make a big push for him.

The Cleveland Indians, essentially out of the playoff
hunt, have decided to become sellers at the deadline,
agreeing in principle to send the defending AL Cy Young winner C.C. Sabathia to the Milwaukee Brewers for a package that is rumored to include 1b/LF Matt LaPorta, LHP Zach Jackson, RHP Rob Bryson, and a PTBNL who is rumored to be IF Taylor Green.
I’m not sure why, but the Cleveland Indians
haven’t figured it out yet. They have been robbed
by the Milwaukee Brewers after trading away last year’s AL Cy Young Award winner C.C. Sabathia. The Brewers are only a few papers away ...
Matt LaPorta is the key player in the
package for Cy Young winner CC Sabathia. Who is
he? What does he bring to the table offensively? And will he get a shot to play in Cleveland in 2008?
“I’ve seen the future and it’s much like
the present, only longer.” – Dan Quisenberry Pending a
physical and a little paperwork, Indian ace and 2007 AL Cy Young winner C.C. Sabathia will be a Milwaukee Brewer sometime this ...
C.C. Sabathia, the Indians first Cy Young winner
in 35 years, is gone. The Indians will announce
his trade to Milwaukee today at a 12:30 press conference. The Brewers have scheduled a press conference at noon in Milwaukee. The Indians received Class ...
Though slated as the starting pitcher for Tuesday’s
game against the Tigers, Anthony Castrovince’s MLB.com blog reports
that an unconfirmed deal has been made. According to a Major League source, the Indians and Brewers have completed a trade in which Sabathia, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, would be sent to Milwaukee for Double-A [...]
It appears that C.C. Sabathia the 27 year
old lefty and reigning Cy Young winner of the
Cleveland Indians will be making his next start for the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers have apparently won the Sabathia sweepstakes before it really got started by including last years first round pick Matt Laporta a left fielder ...
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Buster Olney is reporting
is reporting that the Cleveland Indians just dealt 2007
Cy Young Award winner CC Sabathia to the Milwaukee Brewers for two packs of grape Big League Chew, four jars of Guava jelly, Tivo, and ...
The Indians have agreed to send left-hander and
reigning AL Cy Young winner C.C. Sabathia to Milwaukee
for three prospects, including outfielder Matt LaPorta and third baseman Taylor Green . More details to come.
The Milwaukee Brewers just made themselves legitimate contenders
in the National League Central. According to published reports,
the Cleveland Indians on Sunday traded reigning American League Cy Young Award winner C.C. Sabathia to the Brewers for a package that includes top prospect Matt LaPorta. Sabathia could be on the mound for Milwaukee as soon as Tuesday against the Colorado ...
It looks like the next time C.C. Sabathia
takes the mound he'll be donning a Milwaukee Brewers
jersey. The Brewers and the Cleveland Indians agreed to a deal for the reigning AL Cy Young on Sunday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The ...
GM Mark Shapiro said the Indians are still
working on a deal involving C.C. Sabathia, but there
is "definitively not a done deal" in place. Earlier today, a Major League source said the Indians and Brewers had completed a trade...
While there was an inking of thought that
Anaheim’s Joe Saunders and his 12 wins would be
starting for the AL squad in the upcoming All-Star game, a report at Sports Illustrated gives the nod to our very own Cliff Lee. And deservedly so.
We're at the official halfway point, so it
should be noted that while these are unofficial awards
here at Diamond Hoggers, we've still got a half to go and a lot can change (in other news the grass is green and the sky is blue). Lets examine what ...

This week's edition checks in with the National League up to June 22nd. To check out the results, head over to RotoJunkie to view the results of all who voted. It is also interesting to reflect upon a previous weeks voting. Here is my last posting which was for week 6. The following will be how ...
MVP, Cy Young, LVP, ROY, MOY, Most Disappointing,
and many more categories.
It can’t be easy for Cleveland’s Cy Young
winner. Every time you pick up a sports section,
turn on ESPN, or jump on the internet you see rumors flying around about where C.C. will finish the season. (More on that in a minute.) Sabathia himself admitted it was getting to him a little yesterday...
The Late Bloomer: Mike Scott and John Tudor
My goal in this series of articles about pitchers
of the 1980s is to show that that decade's reputation for mediocrity is undeserved. The two previous parts dealt with pitchers who had excellent careers, yet have been underappreciated. This article is about two players who very well may have garnered more attention had they been able to ...
