Young must improve fitness

Turns out that Dmitri Young's fitness (or lack thereof) is a big reason why he's heading to the disabled list. Here's what GM Jim Bowden said today about the plan for his first baseman. "Well, it's a two-pronged approach. The first part is he's got get his diabetes under control, and you've got to get the blood-sugar levels right. Young to DL, Zimmerman to return

Unable to stabilize his diabetes, Washington Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young was placed on the 15-day disabled list after tonight's game. In Young's place, the Nationals will recall third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who was successfully able to rehabilitate a shoulder injury without surgery. The swap means that Washington loses one middle-of-the-lineup corner infielder and gains another.
