After Reds manager Dusty Baker openly wondered Sunday
if Bronson Arroyo is healthy, the starter said Monday
that his problems have not been health-related.
Big Winners: Edinson Volquez, Joey Votto, and the
Cincinnati Reds: Votto had his best game as a
major leaguer after belting 3 of the Reds 7 homeruns against the Cubs, and Volquez improved to 5-1 with a miniscule 1.06 ERA, and leads all of baseball with 52 strikeouts. Dusty Baker could also be called a big winner as his club took 2 of 3 from the team that most recently fired him.......

While watching Edinson Volquez dominate the Cubs on
Wednesday (7 IP, 4 H, 10K) I couldn't help
but think back to 2003. That was the last time I can remember seeing two young pitchers on the same team dominate opposing hitters in such a fashion. Of ...
Edinson Volquez threw 118 pitches in going seven

At 24, that kind of usage in a game that was safely in hand naturally conjures up memories of the ruined arms of Kerry Wood and Mark Prior . It ...
CINCINNATI -- There will be no X-rays or

Bring up Bailey and Bruce; dump Belisle and
Patterson.
There are plenty of culprits for the pathetic
performance of the Reds offense thus far in 2008,
no question about it. There can be no doubt, however, that Corey Patterson is one of the biggest problems (if not the biggest). Ladies and Gentlemen, ...

Ryan Freel has become a bit player for
the Reds, seeing most of his time as a
defensive replacement or pinch hitter. Why is this? Apparently because of a conversation he allegedly had with Dusty Baker in which he said he wasn't comfortable playing ...
Homer Bailey , the Cincinnati Reds uber pitching
prospect, still isn’t pitching in Cincinnati. But he’s tearing
up Triple-A hitters. Harang, Arroyo, Cueto and Volquez seem pretty safe right now, but Matt Belisle needs to show Dusty Baker ...
Sometimes BP’s snarky writers are a little off
on their assessments. “The upper levels of the organization
are still pretty thin in terms of prospects, so Holliday still gets mentioned. Outfield corners who can’t slug .400 should get to be non-prospects pretty quickly, but a nice AFL gave people a continuing excuse to call Holliday a talent.
Justin has put together a detailed analysis of
Dusty Baker's lineup choices , compared to some alternatives
suggested by Reds fans. His surprising finding is that Baker's lineup is actually tough to beat (despite leading off with Corey Patterson!). This is some great work by Justin, featuring John Beamer's Markov spreadsheet (the right tool to use for the job), and it shows just how tricky ...
There was a chorus of complaints from Reds'
faithful over the Reds' opening-day lineup, and this has
continued in reaction to subsequent lineups over the Reds' first two weeks of play. I asked folks to submit to me what they felt the opening day ...

On Tuesday night, Dusty Baker will return to

The Dusty Baker era provided Chicago with some
of the best and worst memories imaginable, from the
highs of the 2003 playoff run to the lows of the Cubs' last-place finish in 2006. Two years after Baker's dismissal, the mere mention of his name still ignites heated conversations about his ultimate place in franchise history.
The Reds visit the North Side of Chicago
this week, which officially makes it Hate Dusty week
in Cubdom. And while that sentiment is probably justified in a lot of ways -- Baker has done plenty to deflect the blame for a pretty bad managerial hash in ...
