When the Rays lost their best player in
Evan Longoria everyone, including me, thought it would be
impossible for the Rays to fill the hole that was left at thirdbase. The Rays inserted Willy Aybar as the starter at thirdbase and he has done nothing but impress in Longoria’s absence.
A month ago, we examined the postseason odds
produced by Baseball Prospectus ‘ estimable Clay Davenport and
his powerful simluation. Since then, some playoff races have remained fluid (see the AL Central), while others have solidified (AL West). What do the likely playoff scenarios look like now?
"Mr. Longoria! Do you think that the 2008
Rays are the 69 Mets in disguise?" "I don't
know, but do you want to see my impression of the 2007 Mets?" "Sure!" "/collapses" Cinderella's glass slipper has broken. Snow White is comatose and being cared for ...
I examine if the Rays will be able
to hang on to their lead in the AL
East after injuries to Evan Longoria, Carl Crawford, and Troy Percival. Let me know what you think...
THE GOOD: Looonnnggggg home run by Carlos Pena
in the 1st inning. That is 7 in the
last 18 games. Pena's bat couldn't have woken up at a better time...Great relay to end the 3rd inning. With a runner on second, a single to left was sent ...
Is there a player in the American League
that has been more valuable to his team than
Kevin Youkilis this season? A strong argument can be made for Tampa's Evan Longoria, but I think Youk beats him out. Let's look at his current numbers: He is second in batting average for the AL at .322 (just 1 point behind Pedroia). He is tied for 10th in HR's and is 5th in RBI's. Youk has been a monster in the
Tampa Bay is my new favorite team, if
only because I bet some money on them to
win the pennant and WS, at 75-1 and 150-1, respectively. Losing Crawford and especially Longoria seem to be devastating to their chances, but remember, we have shown that ...
If Tampa Bay surrenders its lead in the
AL East in the next three weeks, Rays' rookie
third baseman Evan Longoria will become a top candidate for Most Valuable Player. Got that?
The Rays have placed Evan Longoria on the
15-day disabled list with a fractured right wrist and
recalled outfielder Justin Ruggiano from Durham. Longoria was hit by a pitch Thursday night in Seattle and did not play in the final three games of the ...
Swept in Anaheim, blanked by a newbie in
Minnesota last night, and an astonishing nine games back
of the Tampa Rays in the AL East. (Of note: TB rook Evan Longoria, the team’s best offensive player, just went on the DL . Carl Crawford is ...
OAKLAND -- Optimistically speaking, Jason Bartlett could be
back at shortstop by Friday and Evan Longoria back
at third by Sept. 1. Bartlett was hit on his right index finger by a pitch from Detroit's Fernando Rodney on Aug. 3 while trying to put ...
The Rays have hopeful timetables for the return
of shortstop Jason Bartlett and third baseman Evan Longoria.
Bartlett (finger) could return by Friday, while Longoria (wrist) might make his way back by Sept. 1.
Even though a lot of people would agree
that the Tampa Bay Rays are a very good
team this year, there have still been a lot of doubters out there who don't think they'll be able to hold off the Boston Red Sox all season. Those doubters have gotten a ...
The Tampa Bay Rays have put Evan Longoria
and Carl Crawford on the 15 day disabled list.
It is not known exactly how long the two will be out. So what do they do now?
Cool Hand Longoria, a pair of cautious Cardinals,
and more injury news.

TR: We’ve all just learned about Evan Longoria’s
wrist fracture. Will this injury still bother Longoria upon
return? Is it something that will linger long term? WC: Wrist injuries linger. I’d like to know what bone was broken, though I’d guess hamate. He’ll definitely lose some power. I don’t have a good comp off hand. TR: If he signed with a team today, could Barry Bonds play and play well
Rookie of the year candidate, and fantasy stud,
Evan Longoria is going to miss a minimum of
two weeks with a fractured right wrist.
Just a day after losing two-time All-Star Carl

Rays third baseman Evan Longoria went on the
disabled list with a wrist injury on Monday.
The Rays may have to bargain with the
devil, the Snakes lose Orlando Hudson (again), and some
major players are down and out.

With the Rays playing another four game set
against the Kansas City Royals, we decided to spark
up a conversation with one of our favorite writers, Joe Posnanski. Joe was gracious enough to talk to us earlier in the season in this interview. He returns to follow up on some things including: the Gathright/Howell blockbuster, Evan Longoria and some book he’s working on.
