Posted by Derek Carty at 11:00am I wanted to
relay a story about a series of moves I made over the past two weeks in one of my favorite leagues. My home league, which I discussed last year , has become significantly more competitive this year with the addition of a few new owners and some radical rule changes. It is now a keeper ...
Everyone was talking Detroit and Cleveland as the
season got underway but now it's a scrappy team
that has had zero breaks go their way that finds itself atop the AL Central. The Minnesota Twins have had injuries galore in the rotation, Young and Lamb aren't hitting and Francisco Liriano may or note recover to help in '08. So how are they in first? Heart my friends. Miles and miles of heart.

No Laffey Matter Aaron Laffey’s debut on Monday
against the New York Yankees was impressive. You might
look at his line of 5.2 IP, 3 H,4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K and think otherwise, but he was the victim of some bad luck and lethargic defense.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The first-place Minnesota Twins. It's a
phrase that hasn't been uttered in a little over
a year, but following five straight wins at home, that's exactly where the Twins find themselves -- atop the American League Central. And while it ...
Knock on Wood, but there is hope that
Francisco Liriano can rebound.
"Maybe you've heard -- Buzz Bissinger is in
the bloggy sports news ether today. Several people sent
us Buzz's piece on Kerry Wood in the New York Times magazine Play from about a year ago. I read the article from start to finish. It's artfully written, evocative, unPlaschkely poetic -- and deliberately, wrongheadedly misleading. Buzz Bissinger, such a gifted wordsmith and storyteller, weaves a..."
It's pretty much become a fact of life
when it comes to baseball. Every spring as the
country prepares for the new baseball season to start, there's word that this will finally be the year that the Minnesota Twins crash back to earth, and finish ...
Twins general manager Bill Smith knew that when
the team called up left-hander Francisco Liriano earlier this
month, the likelihood of the pitcher having success right away was small -- at best.
Liriano returns from elbow injury to make his
2008 debut versus the Royals today.
Awkward, uncomfortable, nervous, uneasy. Each of these words
hold equal precedence while describing Francisco Liriano’s first major
league start in exactly 19 months. Many expected him to show up throwing 97 mph darts like he used to, but it’s clear that he isn’t the same pitcher that he once was, and he may never be again. One thing was clear. He is no longer immortal, not like he once was.
Last week, after Francisco Liriano made an unimpressive
start for Class-AAA Rochester, I guessed that "the underwhelming
outing ... likely eliminates any chance that he will be starting for the Twins this weekend, and that's not necessarily a bad ...
The Royals had no trouble with the Twins
pitcher, who was making his first start in 19
months after elbow surgery.

Sunday marked the long anticipated return of Francisco
Liriano to the Twins starting rotation. Liriano missed all
of the 2007 season after having Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow in November of 2006, and it was evident on Sunday that he's ...
Breaking down the changes of Francisco Liriano both
pre-injury and post-injury using video analysis and determining if
the changes will affect the quality of his stuff down the road.
Minnesota Twins left hander Francisco Liriano returned to
the big leagues yesterday 17 months after undergoing Tommy
John surgery on his left elbow. What can we learn about his stuff in his first game back?
Franchise can't complete 5, struggled with command. While
this wasn't a devastating performance by Liriano, and in
many respects was really a quite predictable outing at this juncture, it still wasn't pretty. Fastballs and changeups ...
Francisco Liriano took the mound for the Minnesota
Twins last night for the first time since his
early exit on Sept. 13, 2006. On that day, in a game against Oakland, Liriano left in the third inning with pain in his throwing (left) elbow. It was his first appearance since being sidelined on August 7 with a sore arm. The ultimate diagnosis was a damaged ulnar collateral ligament...
Brian Bannister had a plan against Minnesota and
Francisco Liriano, and it worked out perfectly. As a
result, Kansas City snapped a three-game...
Three low scoring affairs ended in a series
victory for the Twins against Central division rival Cleveland
Indians. On Friday night the Twins were shut out while Francisco Liriano struggled again in his second start of the season. Liriano allowed ...
