" style="border: 1px #ccc solid;margin: 2px 4px;"/>It looks like the Minnesota Twins are finally going to call up youngster Francisco Liriano. Liriano has been virtually lights out over his past giving up just one earned run in his last five starts, a stretch of 35 innings. Even so, the team has been balking at the idea of bringing him back. Not because he isn’t ready but they believe they have five very capable starting pitchers in the majors.

mysportsrumors posted 11 hours ago from mysportsrumors.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Francisco Liriano, Minnesota Twins

Six Shooter: Should the Twins Go to a Six-Man Rotation?

" style="border: 1px #ccc solid;margin: 2px 4px;"/> A few people have tossed around the idea of the Twins calling up Francisco Liriano and sticking him into the rotation without pulling anyone out. Ninety-nine percent of the time, a six-man rotation simply serves to deplete the talent and take pitchers out of their rhythm, but I think this might actually work for the Twins. Certainly, a six-man staff would mean fewer starts for Scott Baker, the Twins' true ace, but it isn't as though the team would be adding another fourth or fifth starter.
Twins update: Trade winds, Liriano, Everett

A few Twins tidbits for your off-day reading pleasure:
(*) I spoke to several baseball officials today but continue to pick up very little trade buzz around the Twins. One week to the non-waiver trade deadline, and if I had to guess now, I’d say they won’t make a deal.
A late-inning relief specialist seems like the [...]

Twins Territory () found this 28 hours ago on ww3.startribune.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Minnesota Twins, Francisco Liriano

The next Johan Santana had a terrible start to the 2008 season. I should know; I drafted him. When Liriano was sent down to the minors, I had to cut him because my league has no bench. I picked him up over the All-Star break expecting him to be called up, but he is still sitting down in the minors. Why?

In 7 innings against Toledo, Liriano struck out 10, while giving up only 2 hits and 2 walks. Since simple stats don't really describe how dominant he was, I wanted to give a quick inning-by-inning breakdown of Liriano's start. 1st ...

BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog found this 2 days ago on theprospectcorner.blogspot.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Francisco Liriano
