Looking for something to do Monday night?

The Official 2009 World Series Film Premiere will take place Monday night at the Ziegfeld Theatre in Manhattan, as two showings (7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.) will celebrate the official release of the DVD.

Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman will be on hand to celebrate the premiere, as will team broadcasters Michael Kay, John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman, actor Timothy Busfield (who will forever be known to me as Danny Concannon on The West Wing) and other guests yet to be announced.

Although the red carpet will only be rolled out at the Ziegfeld, the film is also being screened at 21 additional locations on Monday night. For more information on where to catch a screening, click here .

The DVD, which goes on sale on Tuesday, features more than 80 minutes of main program presentation and nearly 30 minutes of bonus footage including unique game action footage, exclusive sound via wireless microphones, and in-depth, one-on-one interviews with Yankees players, coaches and team personnel.

Knicks looking for a little Yankee magic

Now that the Knicks have apparently decided not to sign Allen Iverson, it seems like they're looking for some positive PR.

Enter Joe Girardi.

The Yankees manager was named as the winner of the Knicks' Sweetwater Clifton "City Spirit" Award for the month of November. The award, named in honor of Nat "Sweetwater" Clifton, the first African-American to play for the Knicks, recognizes individuals who have made a significant difference in the lives of others.

The winner is chosen monthly by members of the Knicks front office staff and honored at center court during a Knicks game with a $2,000 donation in his or her name made out to a charity of their choice.

Just hours after leading the Yankees to the World Series title on Nov. 4, Girardi served as a good Samaritan by stopping to aid Marie Henry, who had been involved in a car accident on the Cross County Parkway in Westchester County. Girardi, who was driving home, came to her assistance and flagged down police. Henry sustained only minor ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, New York Yankees, Joe Girardi

To say that Joe Girardi has had an eventful few days would be beyond an understatement. It's perfectly understandable that the Yankee skipper nodded off to sleep around 8:30 one night after Wednesday's World Series clincher.

Smith: No. 28 may not be as easy

For Joe Girardi, changing his uniform number to 28 might be one way to see if things will align for the Bombers to repeat as champions in 2010. But Girardi shouldn't count on it. It's going to take more than switching uniform numbers to repeat next year.

Here is the rundown. I can't say that I'm surprised in any way. The Angels' Mike Scioscia got 15 first-place votes out of 28; Minnesota's Ron Gardenhire, who finished second, got six, and the Yankees' Joe Girardi , the third-place finisher, place got four. Don Wakamatsu got two first-place votes and finished tied with Texas's Ron Washington, who got the final first-place vote. Wakamatsu was named on seven ballots (two firsts two seconds, and three thirds), while Washington was on 14 with one first, one second, and 11 thirds.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Mike Scioscia, Ron Gardenhire, Joe Girardi, Don Wakamatsu, Ron Washington

Scioscia, Tracy capture top manager honors

Mike Scioscia of the Angels won his second American League Manager of the Year award, beating out Twins skipper Ron Gardenhire. Scioscia received 15 of the 28 first-place votes, while Gardenhire got six. Yankees manager Joe Girardi was listed first on four ballots, finishing third.

Mike Scioscia, Angels 15-10-1 (106)
Ron Gardenhire, Twins 6-12-6 (72)
Joe Girardi, Yankees 4-3-5 (34)
Don Wakamatsu, Mariners 2-2-3 (19)
Ron Washington, Rangers 1-1-11 (19)
Jim Leyland, Tigers 0-0-2 (2)

As I detailed in my earlier post, I thought Scioscia was the right choice for this award. I believed Gardenhire would win it based on the Twins' big finish, but I'm glad to see voters recognize Scioscia for the job he did with the adversity his team faced this season.

Tracy was an obvious choice in the NL, leading the Rockies to the playoffs after taking over for Clint Hurdle in May with his team in last place. Tracy beat out Tony La Russa of the Cardinals in a landslide, getting 29 of the 32 ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, New York Yankees, Mike Scioscia, Ron Gardenhire, Joe Girardi, Minnesota Twins

Gardenhire, Scioscia favored for AL honor

The BBWAA awards season continues today with the Manager of the Year awards in both the American and National League, and while Colorado's Jim Tracy figures to be a runaway winner in the NL, the AL should be a very interesting race.

Despite the fact that the Yankees led the majors with 103 wins (the World Series victory doesn't matter, since awards are voted on before the postseason), Joe Girardi has very little chance to win. Right or wrong, voters will always hold the Yankees' massive payroll against their manager, making it virtually impossible for Girardi to win.

Joe Torre only won twice during his 12 years in pinstripes - 1996 and 1998. If Girardi can lead the Yankees to 115 wins in a year, he'll have a shot. I'm guessing he'll take the World Series title over a Manager of the Year award, anyway. Besides, he's already got one from his year with the Marlins, and I'd guess he thought this season was more satisfying.

As for this year's race, there are four managers in the AL aside from ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, New York Yankees, Joe Girardi, Ron Gardenhire, Mike Scioscia

Mattingly could be Dodgers' next manager

The man who lost out to Joe Girardi when the Yankees replaced Joe Torre still wants to make the leap from Donnie Baseball to Donnie Manager and guide his own team one day.
