The Red Sox shutout the Yankees 7-0 in
the first game of the series. Lester pitched a
complete game shutout, giving up only 5 hits while striking out 8. Mike Lowell and Jacoby Ellsbury each had two RBIs in the game. Lester is the first Red Sox pitcher since Pedro Martinez, in 2002, to shutout the Yankees.

There is no doubt about it, Jon Lester
has been the ace of the Red Sox staff
thus far. He has already thrown 2 complete game shut-outs (including a no-hitter) and 61% of his starts have been quality starts. There should be no debate about the excellence of Jon Lester. The true question is whether or not he can keep it up. This can be broken down into two sections, performance and stamina.
