The Marlins, after dealing third baseman Miguel Cabrera
to Detroit, are looking for a new third baseman
and have contacted the Phillies regarding Wes Helms, who played for Florida in 2006, hitting .329 with 10 homers. The Marlins are also considering free agent Jorge Cantu, who spent last season with Cincinnati.

After waiving Jose Castillo last week and optioning
Dallas McPherson to Triple-A today, the Marlins have decided
which washed-up infielder will be starting at third base. Jorge Cantu—of Devil Ray fame—looks to be a lock for the hot corner job. His high point was in 2005, when as a 23-year-old second baseman he mashed to the tune of .286/.311/.497 with 28 HR and 117 RBI.
