It's the question that's been on every sports
fan's mind: Quis re-custodiet ipsos custodes? Okay, it's the
question that's been on the mind of every late 1st and early 2nd centuries CE Latin sports fan, and even though it probably had more to do ...
With baseball set to start using instant replay
on Thursday, there are a lot of different opinions
floating around as to whether or not baseball should be doing this. Some are perfectly fine with the whole thing, thinking that it's about time the ...
Last year, I wrote an article for The
Hardball Times about a formula that attempts to predict
who will win the MVP award. Basically, the three more important things are the Triple Crown stats, and you get some bonus points for RBIs if your team makes ...
I was at U.S. Cellular Field last night
sitting behind home plate when Carlos Quentin hit his
Major League leading 35th home run of the season into the left field seats. Seeing Carlos go deep this season was nothing new, but there was something ...
Marlin Levison, Star Tribune Twins slugger Justin Morneau
kept the glasses filled during his bartending stint at
Morton’s Steakhouse Sunday. Morneau and several of his teammates left the field after Sunday’s victory and moonlighted as the wait ...
The New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez, with his
record $275 million contract, is hitting .313, eight points
higher than the Twins' Justin Morneau. Rodriguez has 116 hits in 100 games, 21 fewer hits than Morneau, who has played in 119 games. Rodriguez ...
In 2006 Twins first baseman Justin Morneau won
the American League MVP award, hitting .321 with 34
homers and 131 runs driven in for the division winning Minnesota Twins. At the time there was plenty of uproar coming from the east coast where a lot ...
Tim Marchman reviews how MVP candidates are typically
chosen and concludes that Carlos Quentin and Justin Morneau
are the only two legitimate candidates in the American League right now.
Taking a break from ripping through his bopless
Whittall Anglo-Persians collection...Bill Madden reads and applauds. By this

By this point in a season, nothing is
easier to predict than a race for the Most
Valuable Player award, which goes not to the best player but to the best player who fulfills a variety of arbitrary criteria. Once you admit that the award is what it ...

I've often felt that Minnesota Twins outfielder Michael
Cuddyer has been unappreciated. His teammates Justin Morneau and
Joe Mauer get all the attention (well, as much attention as the Twins get anyway), while he puts up solid numbers every season ...
Win Shares are updated through yesterday's games (August

now tied with Ian Kinsler for the American League lead in WSAB. In the National, the leaders are Berkman and Pujols, followed by four pitchers: Lincecum, Zambrano, Webb and Haren. Over the past two weeks, Torii Hunter racked up the most WSAB (five), followed by Jason Michaels , Matt Cain ...

I wasn't surprised to watch the Twins take
2 out of 3 from the Tribe over the
weekend. Anytime you face an Indians lineup that features the Humanitarian's Row of Marte (.167), Gutierrez (.213), and Cabrera (.204) in the 7,8,9 holes, you have a good chance of taking the series (and Cabrera's average is inflated due to the hitting tear he's been on over the past few days). Here's what surprised me..
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Minnesota Twins' Justin

To sum up the series this is what
happened. In games 1, 2 and 4 the Sox
starters didn’t pitch well. They were all felled by the big inning, which was due in part to the Twins uncanny ability to hit with runners in scoring position with 2 outs, oh, and some fellow named Justin Morneau. The bullpen collectively crapped the bed which eliminated any hopes of comebacks, but there's still plenty of hope
