The 2012 All-Star Game seems to be edging closer to a home in Kansas City. That was the indication after the Owners' Meeting on Thursday in Chicago, where Commissioner Bud Selig hinted that the newly renovated Kauffman Stadium would get the game.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, All-Star Game, Kansas City Royals, Bud Selig, Kauffman Stadium

MLB to award 2012 All-Star Game to Kansas City

                    Sporting News staff reports

Call it a doubleheader sweep for the Royals on Tuesday. First, ace Zack Greinke is named AL Cy Young Award winner. Hours later, it's reported that the 2012 All-Star Game will be played at Kauffman Stadium.

ComcastNet New England, citing a major league source, says that Kansas City has been awarded the game. An official announcement should come no later than next month at the winter meetings, the site reports.

The Royals were competing with the Boston Red Sox for the game. The Sox wanted to mark the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park with the Midsummer Classic. But as Comcast's Sean McAdam puts it, "MLB typically awards the game to cities and host teams with new ballparks or renovated facilities," and Kauffman underwent a major renovation that was completed in 2009.

Kansas City last hosted the All-Star Game in 1973, the year Kauffman Stadium (then known as Royals Stadium) opened.

Hot-hitting Butler KC's Player of Year

Home is where the heart is or, in Billy Butler's case, home is where the hits are. Butler hit up a storm last season at Kauffman Stadium. He didn't do too bad elsewhere either, and fittingly, he was named on Monday as the Royals' Player of the Year.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Kauffman Stadium
