The San Diego Padres have announced the finalization
of a 51.9 million dollar deal with Cy Young
winner Jake Peavy that will keep him in a Padre uniform through a minimum of 2012, with a club option for 2013. The extension to the 27 year old pitcher is financially the biggest in team history, a sharp rebuttal to critics of the team who have decried the team’s fiscally conservative approach.

This year, as in years past, I haven't
been allowed to say anything negative about the San
Diego Padres until the All-Star break. Originally, the rule was created because the team was really, really terrible and there was no reason for me to pile on, though I did, often and at length. But even when the team was mediocre or even good, there were always players that drew my ire.
