Two of the greatest home run under-producers of
all time were teammates: Kirby Puckett and Gary Gaetti
in 1984. Puckett hit no home runs (-16), Gaetti hit only 5 (-19). Suggesting the possibility that the Twins’ two titles may have been aided by their team being among the first to discover…well, I’d better not go there. Nor will I point out that Gaetti was bald and had acne and Puckett died young.

A look back at the 1991 Fall Classic
between the Twins and Braves. A few of my
buddies recently had a discussion on which World Series was the best of all time. Most seemed to agree with the 1975 Series between Cincinnati and Boston, which I couldn't disagree with.

You visit the Hall of Fame as a
baseball fan, but you can’t be a real a
fan without a rooting interest. So as cool as it was for me to see artifacts of Cobb and Mays and Puckett — and believe me, it was really cool — I was more interested in Yaz and Williams and Curt Schilling’s hosiery. That’s just how it goes; I love the game of baseball, but I love it through the prism of the Red Sox.

Only one player of the Fantasy Era (1980-present)
has been good enough to be ranked 2nd best
on multiple occasions, only to fall short of the elusive #1 ranking each and every time ... Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett. Don't blame him though, he ran into a wall of out of the ordinary seasons.
