Despite an apparent lack of movement in trade
talks for Johan Santana, the Mets still are very
much in pursuit of the Twins' lefty, according sources. As a result, they are not likely to sign Livan Hernandez or any other pitcher.
With each passing start you have to wonder
how close Francisco Liriano is to returning to the
Twin’s rotation. Especially with Nick Blackburn possibly headed to the DL and both Livan Hernandez and Glen Perkins struggling. Liriano finished another positive week pitching 13.1 innings striking out 12, walking one and allowing just three earned runs.
One major reason neither Livan Hernandez nor Kyle
Lohse has signed yet is because they are waiting
on the Mets, who in turn will not make a decision about Hernandez and Lohse until they find out for sure what the Twins are doing with Johan Santana...

A sweet sweep for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Another
cry of `Wait Til Next Year' from the crestfallen
Chicago Cubs. Chris Young homered on the game's first pitch, Livan Hernandez wriggled out of several serious jams and Arizona beat the Cubs 5-1 Saturday night to complete a three-game sweep of their first-round playoff series.
The Cubano Caballo looked like he was going
to struggle early but then handled the Tigers quite
handily and besides, the wheels on the Carlos Counter were a'spinnin' and the Twins are a half game out of first. Did I mention my man crush on Livan? Just read the article.

The guy has done nothing but win his
entire career and now sits second in the American
League for victories and third for innings. The Cuban Horse took some time to discuss his post-season success with the Marlins in 1997, whether or not he felt any pressure to replace Johan Santana, whether Carlos Gomez can break the Twins' stolen base record and why Minnesota can make the playoffs in 2008.

…the Mets want to acquire a pitcher, and
are open to stabilizing second base, that’s obvious…aside from
that, though, i have no sense as to what Mets GM Omar Minaya is up to, with the non-waiver trade deadline just two days away…this is not to say he is doing nothing…quite the opposite…instead, i actually get a sense he is aiming for something larger than we all think, and most likely for a ...
