A Dodger bullpen still in limbo without their closer, Takashi Saito. Ahh, not all that much to get excited about after all, is it?

Greg Maddux is back in Los Angeles for another stretch drive. The Dodgers announced Tuesday that they have reacquired Maddux and cash considerations from San Diego. The Padres will receive two minor league players to be named or cash considerations. The 42-year-old Maddux first came to the Dodgers late in the 2006 season, when he went 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 12 starts to help them win a wild-card...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Greg Maddux, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres

Why is ManRam 99?

I'm not the world's biggest ManRam fan or anything but I do know that he has historically been #24. In Cleveland and Boston he wore Two Four but couldn't upon his arrival to LA (Hall of Fame Manager Walter Alston). So after a couple different back and forths with the Dodger Higher Ups they settled on 99. An odd choice for a ball player, especially one of his Caliber. Typically guys with a 99 on their chest don't have a name plate on the back, and it's not because of tradition but rather because they aren't going to make it too deep into Spring Training. Needless to say Manny doesn't need to worry about a red tag hanging in his locker any time soon.

Typically there are reasons behind a players number. Gilbert Arenas' critics coming into Arizona said he would get Zero minutes so he used it as a motivator. T-Mac sports number 1 in honor of Penny Hardaway. Sometimes it's in honor of those who have come before you like the many Venezuelans who have worn Dave Concepcion's 13. Others in honor of ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Manny Ramirez, Los Angeles Dodgers

Greg Maddux Traded to Dodgers

The San Diego Padres have reportedly traded RHP Greg Maddux to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The deal is unofficial right now, and no terms have been announced, though it's expected that the Padres will receive one or two mid-level prospects (i.e. not much).

Maddux has a modest 3.99 ERA, but only a 6-9 record.. The reasons for this are two-fold:

1) The Padres suck,

2) a LOT .

Maddux has gotten only 3.99 runs/game from the Pads, on average, which is 48th among the 53 NL pitchers who have thrown at least 120 innings so far this year. He's had 11 quality starts this year in which he's gotten either a loss (five of them) or a no-decision. The Padres simply don't score runs, being second to last in the majors with 3.82/game. The Dodgers aren't much better (they're 24th in MLB, with 4.25 R/G) but they can probably get him a few wins.
And what difference they can't make in run scoring should be accomplished with the bullpen. The Dodgers' relief corps has a 3.02 collective ERA, second in ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Greg Maddux, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres

Greg Maddux Is Just What the Los Angeles Dodgers Needed

Greg Maddux may be just what the L.A. Dodgers needed.
I know what you’re you are all thinking: He’s had an unimpressive year. So have the San Diego Padres.
But consider this: Maddux has made 26 starts this season going 6-9, but in 15 of those starts, he has received three or less runs of support. And in three of those games, the Padres were shut out.
Maddux’s pitching personality is much like the perceived personality of California: soft and laid back.
Maddux is a crafty righty if there ever was one.
Alas, Maddux’s value may not be determined by wins and losses. Remember, the Dodgers' rotation is quite young. Maddux is a library of knowledge for Hiroki Kuroda, Chad Billingsly, and 22-year old Clayton Kershaw.
Maddux has never won 20 games in a season, but he’ll be a Hall of Famer someday. But for now, he’s a pitcher, and a good one at that. Maddux may not pay off this year, but the knowledge he imparts will.
Be patient, Dodger fans.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Greg Maddux, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, Hiroki Kuroda, Clayton Kershaw
