It was the best of times, it was
the worst of times . . . for fantasy
owners, tonight’s trade of Damaso Marte and right fielder Xavier Nady from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the New York Yankees is a double edged sword. For Nady owners his value jumps, while Marte goes from a very good fantasy closer to a very good set up man for Mariano Rivera.

Here we are back at Fenway Park, where
I’m pretty sure Mariano Rivera will be closing for
the Yankees. As of now, Jonathan Papelbon hasn’t declared himself more worthy to close for the Bombers, though that could always change. I say that in ...
In my last post about Jose Contreras' trip
to the disabled list , I marveled at the
fact White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen was able to string together 75 consecutive words without swearing. I'm pretty sure that's a career high for the Sox skipper. ...
The Boston Red Sox suspect Manny Ramirez ,
unhappy about a six-figure fine levied on the slugger
for pushing a team employee to the floor, purposely took three called strikes during a pinch-hit at-bat against the New York Yankees earlier this month, ...
Manny Ramirez was disciplined by the Red Sox
in the aftermath of his June 28 altercation in
Houston with Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick in an agreement struck among the club, the player and his agent, Scott Boras, and the players' union. ...
Did Manny Ramirez intentionally strike out in a
tight spot in revenge for being fined for shoving
the traveling secretary to the ground? If so, Manny might not find himself in a Boston uniform next year...
With the week almost over, I've been scanning
and surfing through this atrocity known as the Internet
to find the people who have done something so stupid that it warrants a permit to be that off the wall. After careful deliberation with several people, these seven entities have earned the title of Boneheads of the Week. And man, have they earned it! http://rawsportsblog.com/?p=1295
Here are my grades for the Yankees so
far.
From ESPN : Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon
blamed the New York media for creating a firestorm
that resulted in his pregnant wife being threatened on Tuesday. MLB.com reported that during a red carpet parade for the All-Star Game that went down Sixth Avenue in Manhattan, Papelbon and his wife Ashley were bombarded by insults from fans. "I feel like I needed to be in a bullet-proof car," ...
Or better known as the never ending all-star
game! I guess it was quite a fitting send
off for Yankees stadium. You don’t have to be a Yankees fan to appreciate the stadium as a piece of our history, or to know how awesome that must have ...
Okay, it's not a Jersey ... but check
out this Beer Vendor's hair at the All-Star Game.
In the end it was just Terry being
Terry. That is the best explanation for the minor
suspense AL manager Terry Francona created this week when he refused to publicly name Mariano Rivera his closer for the All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium. Though...
Mo Rivera is as good a reason as
any that this game be played at this place
this season, the last of the current rendering of Yankee Stadium, because he is the biggest star of all of them Tuesday night, as much of an immortal as any Yankee. ...
Joakim Soria spent Monday rubbing elbows with his
idols -- most notably Mariano Rivera. But the Royals'
closer and new All-Star has carved out his own name.
The only thing sillier about the All Star
Game (excluding Alfonso Soriano picking his nose ) than
actually having an hour long red carpet parade was that Yankee fans got into a veritable froth over hearing that Jonathan Papelbon , the Red Sox ...
The Boston Red Sox had 7 players on
the All-Star roster and a few of them made
more than a few headlines over the past few days - including last night...
There is dumb and there is stupid, then
there is out of your mind retarded, and Jonathon

APJonathan Papelbon pitches during the 8th inning of
last night's All-Star Game. Well that got out of
hand right quick. What else can you say about Jonathan Papelbon's appearance in the Bronx tonight, as Yankees fans at the All-Star Game...
Noah K. Murray/The Star-LedgerDavid Wright hits a broken
bat single in the thirteenth inning during the 2008

Here is the back cover of the Daily
News: The story's headline: Jonathan Papelbon Says He Should
Close All-Star Game Instead Of Mo "I think I should get the shot." The guy's got a lot of nerse, huh? Reading that statement from Papelbon, who is a ...
For the first time since Pedro Martinez left
Boston, in fact, we have a new villain in
the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry: Jonathan Papelbon, who insists he meant no disrespect toward Mariano Rivera, but it probably won't matter now.
There was a really long All-Star Game that
ended this morning. The American League won 4-3 in
15 innings. John Delcos has the story. Mariano Rivera didn’t get the save but he had a great night. Sam Borden has the story. The gathering of ...
Don't have too much to say about this
other than 1) It made me laugh really hard
and 2) Sarah Jessica Parker momentarily looks good non-scary again. We're currently in the top of the ninth, the game is tied, Mariano Rivera was just summoned to the ...
Tampa has what its GM Andrew Friedman termed
“a wild card” to solve the Rays’ righty-bat shortcoming:
Injury-devastated Rocco Baldelli began a 20-game rehab stint over the weekend in Single-A and now moves to Double-A Montgomery. If the Rays...
Congratulations to Jonathan and Ashley Papelbon ! Per
the Hartford Courant , Ashley is expecting the couple's
first child -- no word on the due date yet. And what better congratulatory gift than a giant media firestorm and the back page of the New York Daily News branding you a "Papelbum"? From the same Courant story: Jonathan Papelbon was upset over a NY Daily News account of his ...
Just got back from the red carpet MLB
All Star Game parade down sixth avenue here in
New York: Highlight of the parade for me was the fans mercilessly booing Bosox reliever Jonathan Papelbon . Of course, the Yankee fans were responding to ...

Back in February, Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez let
it be known that the 2008 season would more
than likely be his last spent donning an Angels uniform . Neither he or the Angels could work out a long-term deal over the winter, and K-Rod went ...
Jonathan Papelbon on Monday suggested, before toning down
his comments, that he should pitch the ninth in
Tuesday night's All-Star Game rather than Mariano Rivera.
The punk I speak of is Red Sox
closer Jonathan Paplebon, and it turns out that this
arrogant douchebag thinks he deserves to close tomorrow. From Peter Abraham : “If I was managing the team, I would close. … But I’m not managing the team,” he said today. Sam Borden and some of the other writers there asked Papelbon whether Mariano Rivera had earned the right to close. “I think we both ...
NEW YORK - It would seem to be
an easy decision to have Mariano Rivera close the
All-Star Game for the American League tonight. Yankee Stadium is his home, and the 38-year-old right-hander is giving one of the best seasons of his distinguished career. ...
Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Alex Rodriguez are
going to experience something new Tuesday - being surrounded
and outnumbered by Red Sox in their own clubhouse at Yankee Stadium.

With the All-Star Game set to kick off
