Our Yearly Pirates WTF
I challenge anyone to explain the Pirates insane decision to acquire Matt Morris and his TEN MILLION DOLLAR contract. When I heard about the deal I said, "Can’t be THAT Matt Morris." I mean, why are the Pirates trading prospects (not that the Pirates really HAVE prospects) for a 33-year-old pitcher? Of course, that was hardly the most astonishing piece of the deal. No, what gets the jaws to ...

 A Giant Fire sale???
A Giant Fire sale???
I think it's about time we stick a "For Sale" sticker on the uniform of the San Francisco Giants. There are a lot of good players that can really help a contending team make the playoffs or possibly make them a World Series caliber team. Here are just some names that could make a big difference down the stretch run:

Justin Verlander a Filthy Sonofabitch; Tosses a No-Hitter!
Justin Verlander a Filthy Sonofabitch; Tosses a No-Hitter!
With all kinds of nasty, nasty, unhittable breaking balls and fastballs in his arsenal tonight, June 12, 2007, the 24-year-old became the first Tigers pitcher since Jack Morris did it during that magical 1984 season to toss a no-hitter. And the last time a Detroit hurler tossed a no-hitter at home? Virgil Trucks back on August 25, 1952, against the visiting New York Yankees.

Huntington says Pirates will stick by Morris ... for now
The Pirates' options with Matt Morris all are plenty unattractive. Buy him out? That would prevent further scenes like the four-inning, eight-run meltdown that marked the 10-4 loss to the Florida Marlins last night at PNC Park, but it also would ...

 Pirates release high-priced vet Morris
Pirates release high-priced vet Morris
The decision to cut Morris will cost the Pirates more than $10 million, in addition to what they already have paid him this season. Morris is making $10,037,283 this season, or about one-fifth of their payroll, and has a $1 million buyout for 2009. "Matt Morris is a true professional," manager John Russell said. "He's had a great career. He wanted to help us win, but it just wasn't working ...

Pirates News and Notes: Starting rotation set
Neal Huntington indicated that he expects the Pirates starting rotation to be Ian Snell, Tom Gorzelanny, Paul Maholm, Zach Duke and Matt Morris. This is not much of a surprise. Snell, Gorzelanny and Maholm were locks, assuming none were involved in a trade. Morris, despite being vastly overpaid, could potentially be a solid fifth starter.
