Cubs could move Bradley in three-team deal

                    Sporting News staff reports

There has been talk of a three-way trade involving the Cubs, Mets and Rangers, the Chicago Tribune reports.
In the proposed trade, the Cubs would send outfielder Milton Bradley and cash to the Rangers, the Rangers would send righthander Kevin Millwood to the Mets, and the Mets would send second baseman Luis Castillo to the Cubs.
The Mets have been public about their desire to deal Castillo, a move that would allow them to pursue second baseman Orlando Hudson in free agency. Similarly, the Cubs have made no secret about their plan to ship Bradley out of town after the outfielder's team-imposed suspension at the end of the 2009 season.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, New York Mets, Milton Bradley, Kevin Millwood

Lo Duca: Sign me

Ex-Met Paul Lo Duca , forced into retirement when he went unsigned last offseason, wants back into MLB. Here's what he told Sirius XM's Casey Stern and Kevin Kennedy :

Paul Lo Duca: “I’m completely healthy. I feel unbelievable. I’ve been hitting the last four or five days constantly and started my workouts. I feel great. My hand feels 100 percent for the first time in a while. My hamstring and my knee finally healed after the surgery I had there. … I want to come back and play. When I started working with you guys (as a part-time analyst) and started really watching the games it really gave me that edge. My heart’s into it and I want to go back in it full bore and [do] whatever needs to be done. I want to play on a team that wants to win and wants a player that wants to win. I’ll do whatever I need to do. If it’s come off the bench, if it’s spot starts, I’ll do whatever they need me to do.”

Several clubs expressing interest in John Smoltz

                    Sporting News staff reports

John Smoltz apparently won't lack for options this offseason.
FoxSports.com reports the 42-year-old right-hander has drawn interest from at least seven clubs, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets and Seattle Mariners. Other potential suitors include the Houston Astros, Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles.

Smoltz finished this past season with the Cardinals, going 1-3 with a 4.26 ERA as the club's fifth starter. He began the year with the Boston Red Sox but was released after posting an 8.32 ERA in eight starts.

Fox speculates that Smoltz would prefer to remain in the National League, where has played all but four months of his 22-year major league career. The site also reports that Smoltz is open to being a starter or a reliever and says that "some teams have inquired about him as a closer."

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, John Smoltz, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros

Japanese pitcher headed to MLB

The agency that represents Johan Santana , Jose Reyes and a bevy of other Mets clients over the years has a new player in the fold. Lefthander Hisanori Takahashi , who will be represented by Peter Greenberg & Associates, announced Tuesday in Tokyo that he has elected free agency.

Here's the announcement from the agency:

The 34-year old Takahashi has spent his entire 10-year career with the Tokyo Giants of the Japanese Central League. A front of the rotation starter, Hisonori has compiled a 32-15 record over the last three seasons. He has led the team to the Central League Championship in each of those three seasons.

“It has always been my dream to pitch in the Major Leagues,” Takahashi said. “I made my decision because I believe I can succeed.”

In 2009, Takahashi led the Giants to the Japan Series championship, posting a 10-6 mark with a 2.94 ERA in 25 starts. It marked the third time in his distinguished career that he has been a part of a Japan Series ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants

Sandy Alomar Jr. has left the Mets to join Manny Acta's staff in Cleveland as first base coach. Alomar had been a finalist for the Mets bench coach job with Razor Shines and Dave Jauss , but the Daily News reported last week that the position is expected to go to Jauss, Baltimore's former bench coach. As a result, Shines is expected to move to first base and Alomar likely would have remained catching instructor.
