Where Are the Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants?

The baseball playoffs are here and if you are a fan of Bay Area baseball teams—you have nothing to root for during the remainder of October.
The Giants were finally put out of their misery after 162 games of the worst baseball I have ever seen. The final game against the Dodgers was like watching the final scenes of "Old Yeller" (that sick doggy snuff film produced by Disney)—you were sad to see the season end but you were just happy to not have to see the Giants embarrass themselves any longer.
Oakland's season was not much better. They came into 2008 by trading away every good player they have ever had then proceeded to look like a decent team until choking away the season in the final month and a half.
So after watching the embarrassing debacle that was Bay Area baseball all year and not being rewarded with a playoff team, I want to give you people a couple of reasons to watch the playoffs this year anyways.
1) The extension of the Cubs curse. Although the Cubs started to ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants

Duchscherer deems surgery a success

One of Oakland's more significant unknowns heading into the offseason was the status of Justin Duchscherer's injured right hip. Duchscherer offered some clarity when he told MLB.com on Tuesday that his exploratory surgery was a success. "Everything went well," he wrote. "I just had some torn cartilage cleaned out.
Cubs Should Go with Chad Gaudin over Jeff Samardzija for Playoff Roster

Although Cubs pitcher Chad Gaudin has struggled lately, he is the pitcher the Cubs should give their final roster spot to in the postseason.
Right now, it is down to Gaudin and Jeff Samardzija. While Samardzija is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA, he has pitched in a 139.1 innings this season (including his stints in the minors). If the Cubs view him as a long-term reliever, or potential starter, they would be smart to rest him and go with the experienced Gaudin in the postseason.
Not only is Gaudin very valuable in the spot-starter role, but leaving him off the roster risks losing him next season because it could sour his attitude toward the club.
Gaudin has struggled since coming over from the Athletics, compiling a 5.84 ERA, but has playoff experience and is a great pitcher to get the Cubs into the later innings through relief.
