The Mets have fired manager Willie Randolph, pitching
coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto,
the team announced shortly after 3 a.m. on Tuesday. Bench coach Jerry Manuel has been named the team's interim manager.
Omar Minaya refused to guarantee that his on-field
staff would remain intact for Monday's game in Anaheim,
further fueling speculation that at least two of Willie Randolph's coaches could be axed during the Mets' series against the Angels that opens Monday. It's believed that Minaya abruptly changed his travel plans as the Mets' team bus was about to depart Shea Stadium last night and ...
The Mets' bullpen has been a mess for
most of the season, and Billy Wagner evidently is
tired of the pitchers involved shouldering the blame. In a New York magazine article that hits newsstands tomorrow, Wagner points a finger at Willie Randolph and ...
Willie Randolph will be replaced by the bench
coach Jerry Manuel. Also fired were two coaches, pitching
coach Rick Peterson and first-base coach Tom Nieto. >
(06-17) 20:09 PDT -- Rick Peterson was Barry
Zito 's pitching coach through the pitcher's best years
in Oakland. Now that Peterson is unemployed, would it not make sense for the Giants to hire him as a special instructor to work with Zito and help ...
Rick Monday is headed to the White House.
The former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder, a two-time Major
League All-Star, and his wife, Barbaralee Casciari Monday, will be joining President Bush and the First Lady at the White House as part of "Salute to Baseball – America’s Pastime." Rick will be coaching third base during a Little League All-Star Tee Ball game on the ...
Boom. A few months ago (now lost on
the old site) I wrote the Mets finally had
a strength they could rely on: the bullpen. It's amazing what two terrible games will do to a man's psyche.
I do not say this lightly: The Mets'
firings of Randolph, pitching coach Rick Peterson and first
base coach Tom Nieto will go down as one of the most disgraceful episodes in sports history.

Sources tell me that Rick Peterson has been
fired as pitching coach of the New York Mets
. As yet, this cannot be confirmed, though reports this weekend have been leaning this way. We’ll know more shortly.
I try to avoid the New York/Boston baseball
scene as much as possible. Too much noise, not
enough signal for my taste. Every now and then, though, something happens that makes it difficult for me to ignore. Recently it's been Billy Wagner taking shots at anyone in his locker room, but today we've got the double whammy. Mets Fire Peterson Joe's got the dirt on Willie Randolph , but what's the ...
Despite winning 3 of his last 4 and
showing signs of turning things around, Willie Randolph was
fired today by the New York Mets. Wow...unreal. The Mets named Jerry Manuel interim manager, replacing Randolph. Manuel, in his fourth season with the Mets, had been bench coach since 2006. The Mets also named Ken Oberkfell, Luis Aguayo and Dan Warthen to the coaching ...

What must it be like to be Robinson
Cancel ? You haven't gotten a hit in nine
years. You've only tallied eight hits in the majors. You only have five RBI. Then Sunday afternoon rolls along and you single up the middle, driving in two runs that turn out to be the game winners. With two strikes, nonetheless. Pretty nice fathers day, right?
A day that has long been coming, is
finally upon us. Willie Randolph has been fired as
the head coach of the New York Mets
A day after some of us tried to
determine if a skipper has ever been fired between
games of a doubleheader, the New York Mets succeeded in ending the managerial career of Willie Randolph after his club had won 3 of their last 4 . And why, exactly, ...
A lot of people are getting very sick
of Willie Randolph . That's understandable, as the very
expensive Mets are only two games over .500. Here's my issue: I've never seen more fickle fans.
As rumors swirl about the Mets firing half
their coaching staff, they owe it to the players
to just pull the trigger already. That said, if Goodfellas taught us anything it's that Henry Hill can get things done and done in a hurry. The remainder of the baseball season is the perfect window for Hill...just long enough to make an impact, but not long enough to see his coke habit destroy the locker.
I propose to begin calling new manager Jerry
Manuel by a new name. "Glasses"
