Selig: Dodgers are in good hands

Sporting News staff reports Speaking in Chicago at the MLB owners meetings, commissioner Bud Selig told the Los Angeles Times that the Dodgers "are in good hands." Because of the pending divorce between team owners Frank McCourt and Jamie McCourt, there is speculation about the future of the franchise. A similar situation occurred with the San Diego Padres recently, when owners John Moores and Becky Moores divorced. The team eventually was sold, though it stayed in San Diego. "There's no reason to get into any debate about what's going to happen," Selig told the newspaper. "The Dodgers will be in Los Angeles for as long as we're alive and for many generations to come." The newspaper reported the divorce proceedings aren't expected to affect the Dodgers' offseason spending, as the team wasn't expected to raise its payroll anyway.

Shortstop Jimmy Rollins has won his third consecutive NL Gold Glove and Philadelphia Phillies teammate Shane Victorino has won for the second straight time in the outfield. Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright succeeded Greg Maddux, who won his record 18th last year.

Zimmerman Wins Gold Glove [Updated]

Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman won the first Gold Glove award of his career and the first in the Nationals' history on Wednesday. Zimmerman led all NL third basemen with 459 total chances and 325 assists and was a fixture of the "Web Gems" segment of ESPN's "Baseball Tonight." He also led all big league third baseman with an 18.1 UZR, or ultimate zone rating -- an advanced metric that measures the number of runs a player saves or lets in, above or below an average player. "It's a huge honor," Zimmerman said on ESPN News. "I think I've been thought of as a defensive player since I've been drafted. [The Gold Glove] is one of the biggest individual awards you could get." The biggest negative in Zimmerman's case was his 17 errors, third-most in the league, which resulted in a mediocre .963 fielding percentage, ranking well beyond San Diego's
