The pitching matchup came as advertised as the
New York Yankees and Joba Chamberlain got the better
of Josh Beckett and the Boston Red Sox in a 1-0 win in front of 37,744 at Fenway Park. The Red Sox drop to ½ game behind the Rays who are still playing and the Yanks, winners of 7 straight, move to 2 games behind the Red Sox for second place in the AL East.
The Boston Red Sox come into tonight’s game
with the New York Yankees having won 3 straight

With the Rays playing another four game set
against the Kansas City Royals, we decided to spark
up a conversation with one of our favorite writers, Joe Posnanski. Joe was gracious enough to talk to us earlier in the season in this interview. He returns to follow up on some things including: the Gathright/Howell blockbuster, Evan Longoria and some book he’s working on.
Dan Wheeler was drafted by the Devil Rays
before they were the Rays, before they even were
a team, in the 34th round in 1996. After debuting with Tampa Bay in 1999, Wheeler's first real success as a major leaguer came out of the Mets' bullpen in 2003 ...

The Yankees haven't actually been chasing the Red
Sox since the end of the 2004 American League
Championship Series, it just seems that way sometimes. But the Yankees could sure catch them with a sweep this weekend at Fenway.

Everywhere the Rays have mentioned in possible trades,
names like Davis, Hellickson and even Price have been
mentioned. You kind of knew Andrew Friedman wouldn’t part with one of these guys for a “rent-a-player”. But now The Rays are telling teams NO when it comes to their top prospects
Street: Being offered to Red Sox, Rays, White Sox
This per a Gammons segment on Baseball Tonight.
As the trade deadline looms, baseball writers everywhere
have been consuming themselves with the seemingly endless list
of players that could be on the move before it is all said and done. Since dealing CC Sabathia, the Indians have fallen out of the trade spotlight a bit, since names like Matt Holliday and Mark Teixeira...

and they added another run before holding off the Seattle Mariners 6-3 in front 43,321 at Safeco Field to give themselves a 3-game sweep. The win also keeps them a ½ game behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East.
This would be a great trade for Tampa.
It would launch them over the Red Sox and
Yankees. Well, maybe.

The stats don't lie. The Rays have the
