(Roy) Holidays Coming Early For Red Sox

The holiday season may be coming early for Red Sox Nation. Or maybe, I should be saying: the Halladay season is coming early. The reports came out Tuesday from the New York Daily News that the Boston Red Sox were in strong pursuit of Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay. The Daliy News stated that the Sox were "in a full court press" to get a deal done by the start of the winter meetings of baseball's general managers, which is set to begin on December 7th. ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes reported similar news today, but also stated that if trade talks started heating up between the Sox and Blue Jays, then they should expect other suitors to be close on the Sox's heels. Typically teams pull off deals including players of Halladay's stature during the regular season, as GM's begin to loose sleep on the prospect of loosing their franchise player to free agency without any compensation. Once July rolls around, that's when the phone calls usually start being picked up. But Halladay's ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Boston Red Sox, Theo Epstein, Roy Halladay, Toronto Blue Jays

The 5 Free Agents I Want In Red Sox Nation

I remember being about five or six years old and writing a letter to Santa every year around Thanksgiving. I would grab a sheet of the paper with the HUGE lines, and write a list as long as I could, with the smallest chicken scratch handwriting I could muster. It would include all things Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, or Darkwing Duck. And I would never get everything I wanted, but if I had gotten just one or two of the items on my list, I would always be exceptionally happy.

I expect this list to have a similar effect. I'm writing it to Theo Epstein, who I know will never read this, but if he gets one, maybe two, of these free agents, I'll be just as happy as the time I got the Technodrome. That's right. Be jealous.
Adrian Beltre and Rick Ankiel: What's up with the Boston Red Sox?

The Boston Red Sox are reportedly interested in four different free agents who are Scott Boras clients.
Two of them, Matt Holliday and Mike Gonzalez, have been rumored to go to the Red Sox numerous times. The other two, Adrian Beltre and Rick Ankiel, have never before been even thought as potential acquisitions by Red Sox Nation.
Ankiel, the former pitcher turned center fielder, would probably be a better option than Beltre, who's been less than stellar these past few seasons with the Seattle Mariners.
With the potential of former Red Sox left fielder Jason Bay returning to Boston looking bleaker and bleaker, the Red Sox are looking into potential replacement left fielders. They have already acquired former Florida Marlins left fielder Jeremy Hermida for two middle relief pitching prospects, Hunter Jones, and Jose Alvarez.
I'd be fine if the Red Sox signed Ankiel. It's the potential Beltre acquisition that I don't like.
The Seattle Mariners paid through the nose for Beltre, who was ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Boston Red Sox, Adrian Beltre, Rick Ankiel, Scott Boras, Theo Epstein

Theo Epstein, Here's My Christmas List

I don't want a lot for Christmas, I've got pretty much everything I could want. I have a a nice cell phone, an iPod Touch, an Xbox 360 with Xbox Live, and there is a car waiting for me when I get my driver's license in the near future. Recently, I've been spoiled by my sports teams. But I'm not (too) spoiled. I understand the value of hard work. I get that money (technically) doesn't grow on trees. What else could I want?

I won't be asking for a whole lot for Christmas this year, but at my age, I'm a little old to be asking Santy Claus to bring the presents this December. What other jolly old fat guys can I turn to? The spirit of Chris Farley (may he rest in peace)? I don't think so. So, pleeeeeeeease, Mr. Epstein, I've been a good boy this year, and there isn't really a nonchalant way of doing this, but here's my Christmas list.
