The following is a continuation of The Biz
of Baseball's Organizational Reports. As with the prior report
for the Toronto Blue Jays , this report delves into the Pittsburgh Pirates historically, financially, and from a facility perspective. Includes details on GM history, Opening Day Payroll, Forbes valuation, PNC Park, and more.
I can't stand the fact that every time
I turn on ESPN they are showing 90% coverage
of the Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets. I agree that there should be increased coverage of the rest of the MLB.

Every time the Mets lose a game, I
hear the same things: "It's Willies fault." "Fire Willie!"
"Randolph stinks!" "Where's Frank Robinson?" Yes, that last one is true. I still like Willie Randolph . It's not entirely his fault the players are inconsistent. It's not his fault his pitchers get into the 120's with their pitch count in the 5th inning.
Just when you thought you’d seen it all,
when you thought Teddy had lost the presidents race
in every conceivable way, comes the inconceivable at Nationals Park. On Saturday night in front of a restless crowd watching the Washington ...
For the second straight day, Teddy Roosevelt took
a big lead in the presidents race at Nationals
Park, only to be tripped up by fan interference. In the 4th inning of today’s exciting 2-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs, Teddy dashed out once ...
A tone was set on the first pitch
of the game. A rout soon followed. Cody Ross
got things rolling with a home run to open the game, Dan Uggla connected on his first career grand slam and Wes Helms also went deep. With plenty of support, Andrew Miller ...
“Oh God, there goes that asshole Hanley” was
the first sentence out of her mouth, spoken at
no one and everyone at the same time. Out of curiosity and perhaps even a little pity I politely questioned her about the comment she made just loud enough for everyone to hear. In no time this girl, no older than 21 was telling me things I didn’t know and could have not cared less about. Late night, ...

and I’m bummed I’m not going to have mine

On this well placed off-day (I'm writing a
final paper on Catch-22 and "national community.") I dug
up an old post of mine and will repost it below. Here's my reaction after the Lastings Milledge for Ryan Church and Brian Schneider trade, originally posted December 1, 2007...
Richard Griffin began working for the Star as
baseball columnist on Feb.13, 1995. Griffin began his career
in major-league baseball with the Montreal Expos in 1973 while attending Concordia University. He became director of publicity in 1978. Griffin ...
Former ballplayers telling tales is a fantastic break
from the usual musings from atop the Soapbox. Who
were the Denver Bears? A few months back I found myself asking that question. Since I was still 9 when the Rockies first took the field for Major League Baseball games, the extent of my knowledge on the subject went as far as being aware there was a AAA team in Denver prior to the new ...
Hilarious find by reader EJ this evening. I'm
not sure what this is doing there, but apparently
the Nationals take on Indiana Jones on May 22nd (click for larger)... I know the new Indy movie comes out that day, and my first thought was that it ...
"There is no man, however wise, who has
not at some period of his youth said things,
or lived in a way the consciousness of which is so unpleasant to him in later life that he would gladly, if he could, expunge it from his memory." ...
Just a warning, and the Nationals want to
spread the word about this, but Metro's Green Line
will undergo track work on Saturday and Sunday that (and again, lifting right from the release here) "will delay fans' postgame ride from the ballpark." Metro ...
The Nats Express shuttle bus will be moved
to Lot 7 at RFK for Saturday's game.
While it has not been officially announced, the
first concert that is likely to be held at
the newly opened Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. will be the Eagles. The schedule currently does not display the concert date, but the Nationals confirm that they are in talks with the super group. As reported by the Washington Times : Although no such date appears on the Web site for the Eagles' ..

Nationals management underestimated the prudence of its fan
base and will lose revenue unless it adjust its
pricing policies. Author's wife and he stayed home Saturday night because they had better sense.
