MB: I don't need an apology — and Bud Black didn't tear my ACL. It tore on its own. I wasn't in contact with anybody when I went down. That's been misconstrued. I don't think Mike Winters is a bad person. I think it was one of those days where, obviously, he had some things going on personally.

After today's game -- an enthralling pitcher's duel, and a 1-0 San Francisco win -- the Nats recalled CF Lastings Milledge, who's recovered from his groin injury. They also decided to stop carrying four catchers on their roster. To corresponding with Milledge's return, the Nationals designated catcher Johnny Estrada for assignment, a decision that will terminate Estrada's disappointing, injury-filled year with the team. The Nationals have 10 days to either trade or release Estrada, signed...Please ...

Nats320 -- A Washington Nationals Blog found this 7 hours ago on blog.washingtonpost.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Washington Nationals, San Francisco Giants, Lastings Milledge, Johnny Estrada

SAN FRANCISCO -- The offseason is a little more than two months away, but the Nationals have already decided that reliever Chad Cordero will be non-tendered. The news comes two weeks after Cordero had shoulder surgery. General manager Jim Bowden first gave the news to Sports Talk 980 AM in Washington on Wednesday afternoon.

Just more than two weeks after Chad Cordero had major right shoulder surgery, he has learned of the team's decision to non-tender him at the end of the season. GM Jim Bowden revealed the team's intentions in an interview yesterday with SportsTalk 980. Bowden and other sources confirmed the decision this morning. Bowden said in an e-mail, "We have let his agent Larry Reynolds know that we can't commit 5-7 million to Chad after his...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Roto Professor found this 12 hours ago on blog.washingtonpost.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Jim Bowden, Washington Nationals, Chad Cordero

Interesting Cordero Note

On my commute home, I was listening to Nats GM Jim Bowden’s weekly appearance on 980’s The Sports Reporters. During the weekly demonstration of their lack of baseball knowledge, hosts Steve Czaban and Andy Pollin uncovered an interesting bit of news about injured RHP Chad Cordero.

When asked about the contractual status of Cordero, Bowden commented [...]

The Nationals Enquirer found this 18 hours ago on farmauthority.dcsportsnet.com [link]

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Washington Nationals, Chad Cordero

Aaron Boone isn't progressing as Washington had hoped. Today, Boone reported continued discomfort with his left calf strain, and now the team has scheduled an MRI for later tonight. I'll keep you posted on the results.
Bowden on Cordero, and lineups

In person today, GM Jim Bowden was quick and short explaining the Cordero decision -- which for now, by the way, is merely an intention. If the team had been of mind to tender Cordero's contract at season's end, it would have had to pay him, minimum, 80-percent of next year's salary. (He's making $6.2 million this year, so that would have left him with nothing less than $4.96 million for 2009.
