Blue Jays-Yankees: Toronto Finishes Series in New York With 6-2 Win

The Toronto Blue Jays played their last game ever at the storied Yankee Stadium on Sunday, and they finished with a bang in their 6-2 victory over New York.
Although it was a emotional night for Jays starter Roy Halladay, he pitched another amazing game for his 17th win of the season, while the offense was able to give him a commanding lead early in the game.
The Jays were able to score three times in the first inning against Yankee starter Andy Pettitte, an inning that included a judgement error by outfielder Xavier Nady, giving Rod Barajas a two-run double.
Scott Rolen continued the scoring for the Jays in the second inning with a solo blast, his eighth home run of the season.
Toronto lengthened there lead to 6-2 in the seventh inning with an RBI single from the bat of the recently-traded David Eckstein and with Marco Scutaro scoring on a wild pitch.
Andy Pettitte left the game after six-and-two-thirds inning pitched, giving up six runs on 10 hits, one walk, and striking out four batters. ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Toronto Blue Jays, Roy Halladay, Yankee Stadium, Andy Pettitte

Jays defeat the Yankees : Yankees closer to missing post-season

The Blue Jays played their second last game at Yankee Stadium today and managed to come back despite being down 6-2. Jose Bautista contributed by driving in two and getting his first hit as a Jay since being picked up from the Pirates a few days ago.
John Parrish got the start for the Jays and didn't look sharp like he had in his previous outings. He threw two wild pitches in the first and after each runner advance they were driven home and the Yankees were out on top 2-0.
Wells came to the plate and with a runner on base hit his 5th home run in seven games to tie up the game. With the Yankees already leading 4-2 in the Yankees got back to back homers in the 5th inning to lead 6-2.
Rasner got the start for the Yankees and aside from the home-run from Wells was doing well up until the seventh inning where he managed to load the bases after Bautista got an RBI single. Jays rookie Travis Snider had his shot to do something with the bases loaded but he ended up striking out. Jays managed to still ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Al Reyes, Yankee Stadium

                    * at New York 3, Boston 2: Jason Giambi hit a two-run home run as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning, then singled in the winning run in the ninth as the Yankees salvaged the finale of a three-game series and won the final regular-season game at Yankee Stadium between the teams. Mariano Rivera (5-5) entered with the score tied in the eighth and pitched 1 1/3 hitless innings for the win, helping the Yankees overcome another poor performance by Alex Rodriguez. Booed vociferously all afternoon, Rodriguez struck out three times and popped up with runners at the corners and one out in the sixth. The three-time most valuable player also had a terrible game Tuesday, going 0 for 5 and grounding into two double plays.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Yankee Stadium, Jason Giambi, Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez

The Rivalry That Wasn't: Red Sox Close Final Chapter At Yankee Stadium

The highly regarded Red Sox-Yankees rivalry really hasn't been much a rivalry at all.
The truth is, during the 86 years that Yankee Stadium has been open, the Yankees have virtually owned the Red Sox, going 483-284-4 at the venerated Stadium. But regardless of where the two teams played, the Yanks still hold the edge with a 994-778 all time record. The Yankees 26 Championships are the most of any North American sports team. The Red Sox have won seven, and infamously suffered an 86-year drought between numbers 5 and 6.
Since 1920, the Yankees have won 39 pennants — the Red Sox won six. From Through an 85-year span, (from 1920-2004) the Yankees finished with a better record than the Sox 67 times. During the span, the Red Sox finished second in the standings only 13 times. The point is, it really hasn't been much of a rivalry at all, folks. Since the inception of the ALDS and the Wild Card format, the two clubs have squared off in the ALCS three times ('99, '03, '04.) The Yankees have won ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Yankee Stadium, New York Yankees, Al Reyes, Boston Red Sox

When the Boston Red Sox Came to Yankee Stadium, Memories Were Soon To Follow

Browse through the titles at your local video store or on Netflix, and you can easily see what Hollywood thinks of Yankee Stadium.
You’ll see Pride of the Yankees , the heartbreaking story of Lou Gehrig, including his “Luckiest Man Alive” speech. Babe , which chronicles the life and career of the sport's best-known hero, and 61* tells us the story of the "M&M Boys," Mantle and Maris and the year the Babe’s single-season record fell.
More recently, The Bronx is Burning bought back the 1978 season and all its trials and tribulations, and even Catch Me if You Can assured us that the Yankees would always win because no one can take their eyes off of the pinstripes!
Hollywood would also surely love the outcome of Thursday’s final matchup between the Sox and Yanks in “the House That Ruth Built,” because though it may not have huge implication on the season, it is probably the way things needed to be.
At the close of this season, the Yankees will ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Boston Red Sox, Yankee Stadium, New York Yankees

Yankees-Red Sox: The Rivalry Lives One Last Time in Yankee Stadium

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox have had some classic battles at Yankee Stadium over the years. Sad to say, but it will be the last time that the two rivals will face each other in "the House that Ruth built."
In the past two nights, the Yankees have been beaten by Boston, which now puts them seven games out of the wild card and 10.5 games behind Tampa Bay for the division lead. The Rays have the best record in baseball, at a mark of 80 wins and 51 losses. The Angels are hot on their heals though, just a half-game behind.
This spells bad news for the Yankees, who have managed to make it to the playoffs for the last 13 seasons. This is not good news for Joe Girardi, either. Girardi took over managerial duties this season after the Yankees let Joe Torre go.
The Yankees, under Torre, managed to make the playoffs ever year and wound up winning four World Titles in the process. Girardi will definitely be feeling the heat in New York if the Yanks don’t make it to the ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, New York Yankees, Yankee Stadium, Boston Red Sox, Joe Girardi
