Trail Blazers forward Travis Outlaw had surgery Wednesday to repair a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot. The team says he will be sidelined three to five months. Outlaw, who averages 9.9 points, hurt the foot during the first quarter of the Trail Blazers' game against Charlotte on Saturday night. The 6-foot-9 sixth man averaged 12.8 points last season and has been dubbed "Mr. Fourth Quarter" because of his knack for making important shots late in the game.

Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson is having surgery again. The All-Star point guard will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus, the team said. He is expected to miss four to six weeks. Nelson was injured in the fourth quarter of Monday night's win against Charlotte.

This week's column is a little late, I know. The Magic faced the Charlotte Bobcats to start this week and I forgot to preview it. Luckily for readers, the two teams matched-up last week and i gave the preview. This game, however, featured two major differences. First, for the Orlando Magic, was the return of Rashard Lewis from his 10 game suspension. Lewis tested positive for a banned substance in the offseason and was forced to sit out the first 10 games this year. Orlando has had some problems without Lewis, dropping three games. Ryan Anderson was filling in for "Shard", but went down with an ankle injury last week. Anderson also returned on Monday night. Lewis started slow, scoring only 10 points in 34 minutes of play. Anderson helped out by coring 12 in his 19 minutes for the game. The other major change came for the Bobcats. Earlier in the day, Charlotte struck a deal with the Golden State Warriors. Forgive me if I'm not impressed, but as a Charlotte native I've seen this played out before, in fact it involved the very same team as last time. Much ado about nothing has been made over the trade that took place between the Charlotte Bobcats and Golden State Warriors that sent Stephen Jackson to the Queen City in exchange for Raja Bell. Acie Law and Vladamir Radmonivich were also included in the deal but what it boils down to are the principle players, Jackson and Bell; and I must say that at the end of the day it won't help either team. In fact, for Charlotte residents it must feel like deja vu considering that Jackson is only the latest player from the Warriors that was supposed to be the piece the Bobcats needed to propel them to their first ever playoffs. A few years ago Charlotte made a trade for Jason Richardson and Bobcat fans rejoiced. Richardson was the offensive threat that Charlotte lacked, a player able to get his own shot plus he was the deep threat that they sorely needed. ...

Prior to the season, Jackson voiced his displeasure with his situation in Golden State publicly, saying he'd like to be traded to Cleveland or one of the three teams in Texas, his home state. Blazers' Outlaw has stress fracture in foot

Portland forward Travis Outlaw sustained a stress fracture in his left foot during the first quarter of the Trail Blazers' game against Charlotte on Saturday night. Outlaw entered the game third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.9 points. Team officials said he was out indefinitely and would return to Portland for further evaluation.
