Bulls: Noah to miss 5 days with eye injury

Chicago Bulls forward Joakim Noah will likely miss five days after being poked in the left eye during practice.

The team said Friday that the injury left Noah with blood in the front chamber of his eye after being hurt Wednesday. He'll be monitored daily by the Bulls' medical staff.

Noah averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 74 games as a rookie last season.

The Bulls take on Dallas at the United Center on Thursday in their preseason opener.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Chicago Bulls, Joakim Noah, Dallas Mavericks, United Center

Vinny Del Negro : New Coach, New Era

From BULLS.COM, Brett Ballantini writes "Rookie coach Vinny Del Negro has been quick to emphasize that all his initial decisions, from personnel to playing style, will be a collective effort among the Bulls' brain trust. But there's a sense that Del Negro will look at his Bulls this season a bit more like peers and less like charges who are paid to execute his every whim. A player's coach? But can a rookie player's coach succeed in today's NBA? The trend in NBA coach hiring has certainly been moving away from mindless recycling of the same college of coaches. Such successful mentors as Larry Bird, Avery Johnson and Doc Rivers had no bench experience whatsoever, and all took teams to the NBA Finals as part of their runs in the hot seat."

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Vinny Del Negro, Chicago Bulls, Larry Bird, Avery Johnson, Doc Rivers

Chicago Bulls' Ben Gordon Loses Contract Battle

Chicago Bulls guard Ben Gordon has officially accepted their qualifying offer, allowing him to be a free agent next year.

So much for not seeing Gordon in a Bulls’ uniform this year. I knew that at the end of the day, there was no reason for Chicago to bend from its position. The 6-3 guard couldn’t go anywhere because he’s a restricted free agent and no other team thinks he’s worth the money that he’s trying to get.

If Gordon can have a stellar season, the Bulls will probably try harder to get over their $58 million offer. If he is the same streaky shooter that he has been in previous years, where a 30-point game comes just as often as scoring two, Chicago will come out looking smart.

No. 7 needs to have a drastically better year if he expects to get a higher offer than what the Bulls are willing to pay him. Believe it or not, Gordon actually rejected a higher offer that would’ve made him look like a genius if he took it ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Chicago Bulls, Ben Gordon

Ben Gordon will be with the Bulls for one more year after accepting a qualifying offer late Wednesday night.
The offer will make Gordon an unrestricted free agent after the 2008-2009 season.
Gordon was the Bulls leading scorer last season, averaging 18.6 PPG.
This will be his fifth season with the Bulls and will likely be his last after failing to reach a long-term agreement with the team.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Ben Gordon, Chicago Bulls

Ben Gordon was at media night Monday, but he will not take part in the Bulls' first practices today. Gordon, a restricted free agent, will wait until the Wednesday deadline to sign the team's one-year qualifying offer of $6.4 million. Talks on a long-term contract will continue through today, but it's a long shot the two sides will resolve the year-long impasse.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Ben Gordon, Chicago Bulls

Michael Jordan, Where Art Thou?

Having just written an article about why Roger Federer is better than Michael Jordan, I am suddenly reminded how much I miss the great man. Michael Jordan was truly a once in a lifetime basketball player. He had it all: charisma, talent, drive, athleticism. He drew me into the sport like a deep gravity centre, and the NBA hasn't recovered since he left.
Michael Jordan transcended the NBA to the point where one feels somehow cheated after his departure. A great sports star makes you want to act, speak, and play like him/her, and Michael Jordan did this like no other at his time. "Be like Mike" was a walking slogan for many Michael Jordan fans.
I'm that rare (and some would say honey) sports fan that is particularly drawn to sports in which there is a star that transcends. He literally has to be a walking god. Therefore, I watched Michael Jordan's later career as closely as I now watch Federer's. The man never failed to disappoint—statistically or otherwise.
However, there was more.

 2007-2008 in Review
Record: 33-49 Eastern Conference Seed: 11

 Summer Of 2008
Key Additions: Vinny Del Negro (via coaching change), Derrick Rose (via draft).
Key Losses: Chris Duhon (via free agency).
Up In the Air: Ben Gordon.
Derek Fisher’s 0.4 shot was lucky, but not quite as lucky as the Chicago Bulls were on May 20, otherwise known as the 2008 NBA Draft Lottery.
The 42-year-old NBA franchise went into the nerve-wracking drawing with a measly 1.7 percent chance of coming away with the top draft pick. However, as history has shown, probabilities and percentages don’t always reveal the outcome.
Chicago proved that point, as they were fortunate enough to acquire the number-one overall selection, with just the ninth-best chances to do so.
With that top pick, they chose hometown point guard Derrick Rose, who helped lead the Memphis Tigers to April’s NCAA championship game as a freshman. If it weren’t for that pesky free-throw line, ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Chicago Bulls

Luol Deng's Insurance Problems Cast Doubt on UK Qualification for London 2012

With the city of London hosting the 2012 Olympics, things seem to be far from settled in the Team Great Britain camp.
Basketball sensation Luol Deng, may be prevented from playing any games with his national team, because of insurance clauses included in his new contract with Chicago Bulls.
Great Britain Basketball [GBB] officials fear that the insurance problems that are preventing Deng from playing for his country at the moment will also rule him out of the 2012 Olympic Games in London—and even put Britain's involvement in the tournament in doubt.
The sport's governing body has to find $500,000 (about £272,000) for an additional insurance premium if Deng, who is an ambassador for London 2012, is to take his place in the qualifying campaign for next year's European Championship A division finals.
The root of the problem lies with MetLife, the NBA's insurer, which covers the top 150 salaries in the American league on a group policy. Under the terms of its agreement with the ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Luol Deng, Chicago Bulls

Larry Bird vs. Michael Jordan: Who Is the Best of All Time?

I originally wrote this during the 2006-2007 NBA season. The original source of this article can be found here . Enjoy.

Yes, I’m an extremely biased Celtics fan—however, I can provide several points. Just had to get that out of the way. I’m trying to take a little solace in the however way of watching them lose like maniacs this season. Looks like it might be a while before the modern team gets back on track.
Anyhow, this longtime Celtics fan is going to throw out some thoughts on the comparison, one which I usually never delve into, of Larry Bird and Michael Jordan.
It can be tough to compare players from different positions. The forward is the toughest position to dominate a game from. But Bird was a dominant forward, and was the greatest forward of all time.
Bird is the only player in history about whom there’s no argument as to being the best ever at his position. Bird was a better outside shooter, with much longer range. Bird was a far better passer.

Ron Artest, Team Killer

It happened to the Bulls, it happened to the Pacers, it happened to the Kings, and it's going to happen to the Rockets.
When teams add Ron Artest to their roster, things start to go downhill—and if it doesn't happen right away, it starts pretty quickly after.
His antics in Chicago—i.e. breaking cameras and what not—sure didn't help a team that was already in the cellar. The most games the team won while Artest was on the team was 21. Finally, the Bulls had enough and dealt him to the Pacers.

In the 2004-05 season, Artest was the main "brawler" in the biggest fight in NBA history. I personally don't think Artest's career would've gone down the drain the way it has if he hadn't entered the stands and punched a Pistons ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Ron Artest, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets

Chicago Bulls 2008 Preview: Behind Luol Deng, Bulls Armed for Playoffs

The Chicago Bulls' offseason has been one for the ages. Between winning the lottery despite a one percent chance and the rumors swirling about Ben Gordon heading overseas, the Bulls have been busy.
Chicago returns not only every starter, but virtually every bench player. On paper, this Bulls team goes three deep at each position, and you're asking yourself, "Where was this team last year?"—you're not alone.
The Bulls' 2007 campaign was marred by injuries and underachievement. Rose joins a backcourt that features team captain Kirk Hinrich, shooting sensation Ben Gordon, savvy veteran Larry Hughes, and emerging star Thabo Sefolosha.
The frontcourt for the Bulls is no less of a crowd. Returning starters Drew Gooden, Joakim Noah, Tyrus Thomas, Andres Nocioni, and superstar Luol Deng give the Bulls tons of options ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Chicago Bulls, Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, Derrick Rose
