An in-depth look at the two young point
guards.
Last week’s Advanced Stats column furthered our examination
of basic APBRmetrics and their application. Thus far we
have considered new measures for team and player shooting statistics. This week we explore another important “dynamic statistic”: Offensive Rating. Noted author and statistician Dean Oliver, whose work in APBRmetrics has paved the way for many in the field, created the measure ...

As USA Basketball goes, so goes the nation.
Our team hasn't won gold since 2000, and look
what's happened. It's time to change that.
Last season, Chris Paul emerged as the best
point guard in the NBA and perhaps the biggest
single improvement in his game was his shooting. Paul shot just .430 from the field as a rookie in 2005-06, including a dismal .282 from three point range. He elevated those numbers to .488 and .369 respectively in 2007-08.
The Chicago Bulls are having a tough time
resigning Ben Gordon and Luol Deng to long term
deals. One or both may be gone my the next season either via some sort of trade or free agency. Over the last couple years the Bulls have continued to pile up some great young talent via the draft by trade and a little luck. So should this young talent look to take over the team?
Every offseason and free agency period, there are
teams and players who come out smelling like roses.
This season is no different. Let’s look at the winners of this summer this far… Winners - James Posey, Chris Paul and the Hornets, ...
LeBron (photo. Mannion) LeBron was in the crowd
for yesterday's Cavs/Hornets game at the Vegas Summer League,
which Cleveland lost after giving up crunch-time buckets to Ndudi Ebi and somebody named Larry Owens (Oral Roberts). Funny how LeBron's high ...
Did anyone actually doubt that the Utah Jazz
wouldn't lock up Deron Williams?
Tommy Jones has been invited to be one
of five bowlers that will participate in the inaugural
Chris Paul PBA Celebrity Invitational. The Invitational will take place at the AMF Major League Lanes in Winston-Salem, NC, on Sept. 20 taped for broadcast on ESPN, airing on Oct. 19 to kick off the 2008-09 50th Anniversary Denny’s PBA Tour season.
Pickup basketball is the greatest social activity this
side of taking shots with hot chicks. And, frankly,
if the pickup game is good enough I'd probably choose that over socializing in some bar. Why is it so great? Exercise I'm convinced that ...
Dwyane Wade took a pass off the backboard
from Chris Paul, leaped with arms outstretched and effortlessly
threw down a fierce two-handed dunk.
The USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team will
be profiled in a five-part documentary series, “Road To
Redemption presented by NIKE”, it was announced today. The series, produced by NBA Entertainment, will debut with a special one-hour episode that will air Wednesday, July 2 at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN2.
Thanks to Brewhoop.com who asked the question, "Who
would win if Team USA faced off against the
Boston Celtics in a 7-game series?" Whatifsports put the rosters of the NBA Champions and the Olympic team into the supercomputer and simulated the series 1,000 times. This time, LeBron and Kobe get their revenge against the Big 3 of Garnett, Allen and Pierce...
Who'd win, and in how many games? WhatIfSports
ran the simulation
That’s right folks, Chris Paul and Deron Williams
have singlehandedly ushered in a new era in the
NBA. For lack of a better term, let’s call it the Everybody Wants a Point Guard Era. I, of course, am hoping that Derrick Rose will be the next step in the evolution of this era. Patrick is hoping that the piece of the puzzle is actually Rajon Rondo. The Trailblazers are hoping that Jerryd Bayless is.
What has Chris Paul been doing during the
offseason? Apparently, he’s been hanging out with my cousin
at Disney World. At least it’s good to see he’s getting some R&R before the Olympics . How can I get my hands on one of those VIP tags? Alternate post title : I see your Thabo and raise you a CP3 .
Chris Paul's agent will travel to New Orleans
on Wednesday to talk to the Hornets about an
extension.
The Hornets accomplished their biggest priority of the
offseason Tuesday, agreeing in principle on a contract extension
with All-Star point guard Chris Paul. The deal, which will be either four or five years and range from $60 million to $80...
Rondo showed up as a kid who should
have been going into his junior year… and he
had been handed the task of leading “The Big 3.” It would have made sense for him to crumble a little. To be too star-struck sharing the court with mega-stars. But he thrived. He took charge right away. Not only did he run the offense… he told guys like Pierce and Garnett where to go when they were trying to break...
If you think about it, hardcore hoop fans
are coming off about as good a main course
of an NBA season as you could hope for. Kobe and LeBron reaffirmed their greatness, Chris Paul reached stardom, and the League’s two most storied franchises got back to the Finals. What more could you ask for? How about a dessert of our American cover subjects, coached by one of this country’s greatest ...
