In 10 games this season, Paul has averaged 23.8 points and 9.2 assists.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets

Blessing in Disguise: How Chris Paul's Injury Could Save The Hornets

LaMarcus Aldridge had 20 points and 13 rebounds, helping Portland to an 86-78 victory over a New Orleans team on Friday night that lost Chris Paul to a sprained ankle while trying to adjust to new head coach Jeff Bower. The Hornets trailed for most of their first game since the firing of Byron Scott on Thursday.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, New Orleans Hornets, LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland Blazers, Chris Paul, Byron Scott

Chris Paul had to be helped off the court by teammates after apparently injuring his left ankle late in the third quarter of the Hornets' home game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.

Moments after setting up Hilton Armstrong's dunk, Paul appeared to land on Joel Przybilla's foot, before falling hard to the court and writhing in pain. It was the same ankle New Orleans' star point guard twisted earlier in the week during a victory in Los Angeles over the Clippers.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, New Orleans Hornets, Chris Paul, Portland Blazers, Hilton Armstrong, Joel Przybilla, Los Angeles Clippers

Top 5 Current Signature Moves in the NBA

In this day and age everything is expanding.

Apple Inc. will not stop creating new portable music devices and laptops, and snack companies are finding new ways to reduce calories from our dearly beloved potato chips.

Depending on how you look at it, change can either be good or bad.

This logic can be applied to the NBA.

Keeping things traditional seems to rock the boat steady, but spicing things help once in a while doesn't hurt too.

One of the ways in which the NBA has changed is the way players play the game. They understand the fundamentals of the game, but add their own twist to help give it some flavour.

With each player represented by one signature move, it is hard not to go all sparkly eyes whenever it is displayed.

Any who, here are the current top five signature moves in the NBA. From here on into the foreseeable future, they'll win and lose together.

Paul said he was not sure firing Byron Scott as head coach was the change the struggling New Orleans Hornets needed to make. Floyd said the opportunity to rejoin the club as a top assistant "seemed like a perfect scenario for me.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, New Orleans Hornets, Chris Paul, Tim Floyd, Byron Scott

This is the only position that Portland and any team is always worried about. The Hornets run as Chris Paul does. If CP3 gets his teammates involved, they play well enough to win. If we force him to shoot, then we should be able to handle this game. Neither Blake nor Miller will be able to guard Paul, but if they can continue the solid offensive contributions Portland can win the game. CP3 wins the match-up.

Brandon Roy is due for a big game and this feels like the one. With the point guards tied up, Roy will get a lot of the offensive duties tonight, and I expect him to succeed. Mo Peterson has recently had issues with Byron Scott, now the former coach. I expect him to return, but he's still a relative role player. Same goes for Posey, who is just another decent three ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Portland Blazers, New Orleans Hornets, Chris Paul

Best in League: CP3's Shooting Too Good To Ignore

Welcome to the first of many Best in League rankings. This will give us an opportunity to discuss not who the MVP is, but who is playing the best basketball in the NBA.

Too often players are left out of MVP consideration becaus tof the poor play of their teammates. In recent years it's been almost a requisite that the MVP also be on one of the best three teams.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense because those teams are generally deep and would in most cases be OK without that player. On the other hand guys like Chris Paul and Dwayne Wade (until last year) carry the entire load on their shoulders and are somehow punished for that in the voting.

Kobe led the Washington Generals to the playoffs while scoring 57 points per game and lost to small, defensively challenged caveman playing on a stacked team. In what world does that make sense?

Anyway, these are the guys who are playing the most exceptionally.

Apologies to

Breaking News: Byron Scott Let Go, GM Jeff Bower Steps in

Update: Ric Bucher and Marc Stein are now saying the Hornets will have GM Jeff Bower coach the team and Tim Floyd will be the top assistant. This should be fun to watch!
Marc Stein is reporting that New Orleans Hornets coach Byron Scott, who was the coach of the year in 2008, has been fired by the team. This seems odd considering his recent track record. It's also way too early to be firing coaches in the NBA. Give him at least 20 games, right? Here's an excerpt from Stein:
Scott won NBA Coach of the Year honors in 2008 after he and franchise point guard Chris Paul led the Hornets to a 56-26 record and the Southwest Division title. The Hornets then defeated Dallas in the first round of the playoffs and were within one win of the West finals before losing Game 7 at home to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Hornets slumped slightly to a 49-33 record last season, thanks partly to a flurry of injuries. They were pounded in the first round of the playoffs by Denver, losing the final home ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, New Orleans Hornets, Byron Scott, Marc Stein, Chris Paul

Chris Paul and Deron Williams Are Still Cream of the Crop at Point Guard

Chris Paul and Deron Williams are still the two best point guards in the NBA, no matter what the media would like you to think. Over the last few days you've been bombarded with articles about the Phoenix Suns and what Steve Nash is doing.
For example last night against Philadelphia, Nash finished with 21 points and 20 assists which just looking at that then those are great numbers, but there's more to basketball for a point guard than just passing the ball and scoring points.
If you actually looked at the boxscore you'll see another big number and this one isn't a good number to have. What number is that? The number is seven, the amount of turnovers that Nash had.
When you look at that as a ratio that means that for every 2.85 assists that Nash has he also has one turnover.
But, looking further at the boxscore Nash didn't contribute much defensively except for a blocked shot.
Looking at the season stats for Nash as well you'll see he does well with scoring points and passing the ball, but ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets, Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns

Gordon, the team's second-leading scorer, has a sore groin and is classified as doubtful for tonight's game.

Just what the Clippers don't want to see when Chris Paul is lurking around the corner and an oh-so-modest goal of .500 is within reach:
