Clippers broadcasters suspended for Iran remarks

Clippers longtime play-by-play announcer Ralph Lawler and color analyst Michael Smith were suspended one game by the Fox Sports Prime Ticket cable network for their comments about Memphis center Hamed Haddadi. Lawler and Smith made their off-the-cuff comments about the Iranian-born center during Wednesday night's telecast from Memphis. The on-air banter offended a viewer who e-mailed Fox to complain. The duo did not work Friday's night telecast against the Denver Nuggets at Staples Center.

The Nuggets once again showed why they are an oddsmaker's worst nightmare. Going into tonight's contest against the Clippers, they were 8.5 point favorites, and through the first 12 minutes it appeared as though this game had predictable blowout written all over it. Carmelo Anthony was unstoppable in the first, as he made his first six shots from the floor on his way to a 17 point quarter. His first miss came with 8.9 seconds left in the quarter on a Chris Kaman blocked shot, which led to a Rasual Butler three point shot on the other end of the court as time expired. This cut Denver's lead to five points, and seemed to turn the momentum in favor of the Clippers for good. After an inspired start by the Nuggets, the impressive energy they displayed early quickly drained from the team with disturbing ease. Anderson has been sore, so he underwent an MRI on Wednesday in Denver, and Dr. Steve Traina said the test revealed no structural damage. To say the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets on Friday night would not be doing justice to the word lost. I can think of a few better words like, battered, bruised, demolished, annihilated...take your pick from any of these. How bad was it? Denver reserve, Johan Petro made his grand entrance with six minutes left in the fourth quarter, and the significance in this is that Petro is a more athletic version of Laker reserve Adam Morrison. His substitution for Carmelo Anthony mid-way through the fourth quarter meant that either the Nuggets were getting blown out or that they had put the game out of reach, and in this case it happened to be the latter. It's not like the french-born Petro is a horrible player; it's just that much like Morrison, he has been unable to realize his potential. His extended play highlighted several things for the defending champion Lakers and none of them were positive.
