Chandler to Train With U.S. Team

In the NEW ORLEANS TIMES-PICAYUNE, Jeff Duncan reports "Hornets center Tyson Chandler has accepted an invitation to train with the U.S. men's Olympic basketball team and will join it for training camp next week in Las Vegas, USA Basketball officials announced Tuesday. It is unclear if Chandler will accompany the team to Beijing for the Olympic Games on Aug. 8-24. Among six alternates selected for the team, Chandler is the only one invited to camp. His addition gives the team insurance in case starting center Dwight Howard does not recover fully from a chest injury that sidelined the Orlando Magic star for the team's one-day minicamp last month."

Magic's Dwight Howard Says Fracture is Healed

In the ORLANDO SENTINEL, Brian Schmitz reports "Magic all-star center Dwight Howard said today that he has fully recovered from a fractured sternum sustained in the playoffs and has been cleared to practice for Team USA July 21-25 in Las Vegas. Howard had to sit out the first minicamp in preparation for the Olympics as a precaution. I've been cleared to play,' Howard said. It bothered me a lot. I tried to play as much as I could through the pain in the playoffs. I didn't know what it was until after the playoffs.' Howard was involved in a collision during the second-round series against the Detroit Pistons. Howard said he was ready to help the U.S. recapture the gold medal next month and fulfill a childhood dream."

Dwight Howard has been brushing up on his Chinese. He can already say "hello" and "I love you." Soon, he and his Olympic teammates hope, the All-Star center this summer will add "gold" to that list. "Everybody wants to see us win, and they're counting on us to win," Howard said Tuesday, preparing for the men's basketball training camp in Las Vegas next week before the team heads to Beijing.
