It's official now. The Pistons have fired Flip
Saunders after three seasons in which he led the
team to the Eastern Conference finals. No replacement has been named, but a press conference announcing Michael Curry as the new coach is expected sometime this week. I'll have more later in Booth Newspapers and on mlive.com
We were all wrong. All of us who
speculated that the Pistons' loss in Game 6 to
Boston spelled the end of Flip Saunders' coaching life in Detroit were wrong. Saunders met briefly with Pistons president Joe Dumars on Saturday and all indications are that he was told he will be back. Understand that with the Pistons, a coach's job security can change in an instant, but as of today, the ...
"He's high-energy, he's very enthusiastic, he plays hard
-- he's borderline out-of-control at times," coach Flip Saunders
said. "... But you've got to like his enthusiasm. He's really well-liked by the players." Brezec got kudos for his hustle play in Friday's win, when he dove across the Pistons' bench trying to save a ball from going out of bounds. The move caused several Pistons players ...
The Detroit Pistons say Flip Saunders will not
be back as coach next season. "Decisions like this
are difficult to make," team president Joe Dumars said on the team's Web site. "However, at this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change." In his three seasons, the Pistons were 176-70 in the regular season and 30-21 in the postseason, but they lost in the conference finals each year.
Don't flip out. But it might be time
for Flip Saunders to be out as coach of
the Pistons, if only because the players might have stopped hearing him. It looked a little bit that way after the Boston Celtics eliminated the Pistons from the playoffs in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals Friday night at The Palace. Things didn't go well down the stretch, and that incriminates key ...

Reports of the Detroit Pistons demise may have
been greatly exaggerated after Friday, but even with Sunday’s
win Pistons backers need to be deeply concerned. This should have been a cakewalk, and it’s turning into an evenly-matched series.
The Pistons and Magic reflect on the most
obvious scoreboard error of the season.
Who would’ve thought, with all the Pistons’ playoff
experience and seniority, that they would allow the Philadelphia
76ers to regain a 15-point deficit and steal Game 1 on Detroit turf?
I don't know karate, but I know KA-RAZY!!
Get ready, that's a fact--get ready for the big
payback --James Brown, "The Payback" Detroit's fans showed up at game three of the Eastern Conference Finals ready to cheer for their conquering heroes after the Pistons' road win in game two but by the second half the Pistons trailed by 24 and boos echoed through the Palace of Auburn Hills. The ...
Elijah Dukes faces the possibility of serving up
to a year in jail time for some sort
of domestic abuse. If you can remember, Elijah Dukes is the next Shawn Kemp and has a little bit of an anger problem. His wife now has a restraining order on him and he was put on the inactive list. Ah, maybe he can make it rain with Pacman now. Have a good weekend. Flip Saunders was almost fish food- ...
Fool them once, shame on them. Fool them
twice, it gets real embarrassing, real fast.
The Pistons announced this morning that they would
not bring Pistons coach Flip Saunders back for his
final season. Decisions like this are difficult to make, especially with the success we have had throughout the last three regular-seasons, ...
Time to find that replacement Mr. Dumars! Here
is a little help from us!
In the ESPN post-game show after the Pistons-Raptors
game, Steven A Smith went on a diatribe about
how the Pistons' disappointing season last year was all due to Flip Saunders. Smith went on to the effect that Detroit's starting five were begging Flip to play the bench more. Now, I haven't been able to identify Smith's "insider sources," but they don't seem to live in this dimension...
Ahh, those good ol’ lackadaisical Pistons are back,
chiming in like clockwork- and just in time for
the playoffs!
Flip Saunders has used his bench effectively this
season -- a big factor in his development as
coach of a championship contender.
Dumars said the “coaching search” won’t take very
long (will he even interview anyone but Michael Curry?),
but before we start talking about the new guy, I just wanted to recognize the old one. Flip Saunders had his faults, sure, ...
5th in 6 seasons. Pistons starters to take
a breather Saunders plans to go to exhibition-season format
over last few games before playoffs.
It’s a topic Ian and I have debated
with each other as far back as last year:
could Grant Hill finish his career in Detroit? He’ll be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and after banking plenty of coin over his career it’s ...
