In recent seasons, the Washington Wizards could be described as injury plagued. Those woes have continued this preseason. Not only is star guard Gilbert Arenas not available for at least the first month of the season due to surgery on his left knee, but starting center Brendan Haywood is scheduled for surgery to repair torn ligaments in his injured right wrist next week.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Washington Wizards, Gilbert Arenas, Brendan Haywood

What's Eating Gilbert Arenas?

Just a couple of seasons ago, a person could claim that Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas was one of the best players in the league without hesitation. Sure, Agent Zero has never been a part of the upper echelon of talent that includes the likes of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Tim Duncan, but he did manage to carve his own talented niche in the NBA.
And then the injury bug bit Arenas in one of the worst ways.
After suffering knee problems in 2006 and 2007, Arenas barely played the ’07-’08 season—appearing in only 13 games (including the postseason). It is now October and Arenas will have to wait several months before he can be on the court again, after his third knee operation in one-and-a-half years.
To make matters worse, Arenas refused to speak to reporters on the Wizards’ media day regarding his knee injury, resulting in a $15,000 fine. While Mr. Hibachi claims it was due to his desire to have the ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Gilbert Arenas, Washington Wizards

The Other Side: Memphis Grizzlies

Every time the Wizards head to Memphis for a game, it always takes me back to the first regular season game I covered for the Post in 2004. It also happened to be Antawn Jamison's first game as a Wizard and it set the tone for the leadership and the level of production he has provided for the team. With Gilbert Arenas and Larry Hughes serving suspensions, Jamison had 34 points and eight rebounds that...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Washington Wizards, Memphis Grizzlies, Antawn Jamison, Gilbert Arenas, Larry Hughes

Washington Wizards center Brendan Haywood will have his sprained right wrist examined by a specialist in New York City on Wednesday.

Haywood was injured last week at training camp and was ruled out of Tuesday night's preseason opener against the Dallas Mavericks.

Haywood averaged 10.6 points and 7.2 rebounds in 80 games for the Wizards last season.

The Wizards are also without guard Gilbert Arenas, who's expected to miss several months with a left knee injury. Arenas, who averaged 28.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Washington Wizards, Gilbert Arenas, Brendan Haywood, New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks

PHILADELPHIA - Three of the four members of the 2004 NBA draft class that Gilbert Arenas chastised last summer for balking at contracts exceeding $50 million - Emeka Okafor, Andre Iguodala and Luol Deng were the others - came out pretty big winners this offseason as restricted free agents. The other, Ben Gordon, continues to hold out with training camp underway.

One of the interesting things to follow this season will be how the WIzards go about replacing the steady if often unspectacular production of Roger Mason Jr., who signed a fat free agent deal with the Spurs in July. Roger made open shots, played both guard spots when asked to do it, played solid defense and was a great lockeroom influence. Now that Roger is gone and Gilbert Arenas is once again out, the...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Washington Wizards, Roger Mason Jr., San Antonio Spurs, Gilbert Arenas

With Gilbert Arenas, Washington Wizards Fans Hope for Best but Expect Worst

It wasn’t supposed to feel like this.
As the USA Olympic basketball team brought back comfort and normalcy to fans across the country, the Wizards tried to do the same for the local Washington faithful by signing free agent point guard Gilbert Arenas to a six-year, $111 million dollar contract.
This followed the relatively recent signing of Antawn Jamison, who along with Caron Butler, kept the Wizards' season alive last year without a healthy Arenas.
With all three of the stars signed on long term, coupled with the improving young talent of Nick Young and Andray Blatche, all indications were that the Wizards are finally ready to take the next step from playoff regular to championship contender.
