I'm really starting to wonder. It's been a strange first 14 games in Portland this season. We've had success overall, but against who? A lot of terrible teams. The Blazers have played well below what they are capable of achieving. Luckily, those bad games against bad teams ended up as wins. But tonight? All the glaring weaknesses, from coaching to execution, were fully magnified. What the Hell was that tonight? Don't get me wrong, the first quarter was excellent. The Blazers went right at Mikki Moore and Oden got him in foul trouble early. Greg looked aggressive, capable and willing to score and rebound. Brandon was hitting, things were smooth like they should be. Then LaMarcus and Greg got two fouls and were yanked from the game. Our two best big men, guys who can change the entire game with tempo and skill, were not playing. That's when the meltdown started. The Blazers looked completely atrocious in the second quarter. Coming into tonight's game, the Golden State Warriors had put up tremendous efforts against the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics. On most nights, that kind of play would have gotten the Warriors a victory, but when facing two of the better teams in the East it's hard to come away with a victory especially with only playing eight players. Flash forward to tonight's game and you saw an incredible effort by the Warriors. In the first quarter though, it looked like the Portland Trail Blazers were going to take care of business. One of those reasons was the size advantage that the Trail Blazers have on the Warriors and that showed in the first quarter. The Trail Blazers shot 68 percent in the first quarter and put up 37 points to the Warriors 29. I guess the most positive thing to say about the Warriors trade of Stephen Jackson and Acie Law for Vladimir Radmanovic and Raja Bell is the fact that Golden State franchise is now significantly under the salary cap. With the trade, the Warriors are about 21 million dollars under the salary cap. That means that the Warriors could go after some of the top 2010 free agent players. But even more troubling for Warriors fans is the rumor of Monta Ellis being traded as well. With Ellis, the relationship between he and coach Don Nelson is all but gone. Ellis was trying to be a leader by telling the team something and Nelson cut him off. Any franchise that actually had competent owners, would have fired Nelson on the spot. Nelson has handled the development of Anthony Randolph with zero savvy. Randolph was supposed to make tremendous strides this season. That has not happened because Nelson uses him sporadically.
