Disgruntled Memphis guard Allen Iverson returned to his home in Atlanta after receiving permission to leave the team to attend to personal business. Team owner Michael Heisley gave the four-time NBA scoring leader permission to skip the Grizzlies' game Saturday night against the Los Angeles Clippers following a 114-98 loss to the Lakers the night before.

Is the Allen Iverson Experiment over? The Memphis Commercial-Appeal reported on their web site that Iverson asked to leave the team for personal reasons. The Grizzlies granted his request. Memphis (1-5) plays the Los Angeles Clippers later tonight in Los Angeles. Iverson has come off the bench in three games this season. He scored eight points in 21 minutes on Friday night in a 114-98 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center. The paper did not give a timetable for Iverson's return to the team. In 2007, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant decided to request a trade because he felt that management wasn't making the right moves to build a championship team. The Chicago Bulls were rumored to have the best shot at acquiring him since they possessed an abundance of young talent to part with. The Bulls were said to have offered anyone on their roster except for Luol Deng, who for some reason was considered untouchable. Anyway, Bryant initially wanted to play in Chicago, but changed his mind after seeing how much the Bulls would be giving up in the deal. He believed there wouldn't be enough talent left to win a championship. So, Bryant remained in L.A. and after the Lakers picked up Pau Gasol, they reached the NBA Finals in 2008 and won it all in 2009. And Lakers fans breathed a sigh of relief. Hadarii Jones loves to pick interesting topics to write about. His most recent article was a slide show titled " Born to Lead the top 10 Floor Generals in the NBA " which I was intrigued to read. His list in order went Jeff Green, Gilbert Arenas, Kevin Garnett, Dwayne Wade, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, and Chauncey Billups. To me the weakest link out of the group was Nash. I don't consider Nash a top 10 floor general. He maybe an exceptional passer and shooter, but to me in order to be a floor general you have to be a complete all-around player. On the list, every single player except for Nash plays defense. Certainly not all of them on the same level, but it's good enough to be considered above average. That can hardly be said about Nash. Let's look at the players that Jones has on the list. For anyone that ever questioned the value of Pau Gasol, the play of the Los Angeles Lakers is making the answer painfully obvious. In his absence, the team has suffered mightily on both ends of the floor. Their latest display against the Houston Rockets highlighted their various post troubles, and made his return paramount to returning to their oiled-machine-like ways. That's not to say that center Andrew Bynum hasn't performed admirably in his absence, but the team's play in the paint has lacked the fluidity that Gasol provides. Although Bynum has risen to the challenge by averaging more than 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, the Lakers are in need of Gasol's knowledge of the triangle offense and superior instincts on defense. While Bynum did have a game-high 17 rebounds against the Rockets, the Lakers were still out-rebounded by the much smaller Houston team.
