Memphis Grizzlies Building a Team for the Future

When the Memphis Grizzlies traded Pau Gasol before last year’s trading deadline, it appeared that they were going to be a lottery team for a while.

That still might happen, but they aren’t going to be a complete bore this season.

The Grizzlies are at least making an attempt at becoming a serious team this season with some of their activity this year. First they pretty much traded Mike Miller and Kevin Love for OJ Mayo.

I realize that many believe this was a bad deal, but I’m convinced that Mayo is going to be a lot better than people think he is. Miller was a good shooter, but was never going to be a great player while it seems like Love carries many more risks than Mayo.

The former USC standout is actually closer to 21 than he is 19 and has always been more mature than players his age. I’m also not convinced that he had a real chance of displaying all his skills under USC coach Tim Floyd’s system because he was getting the ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Memphis Grizzlies, O.J.
Cavaliers sign veteran center Wright

The Cavaliers signed center Lorenzen Wright on Friday to help offset the loss up front of forward Joe Smith.

Cleveland has been looking for some frontcourt size since Smith was traded as part of the three-team deal with Memphis and Milwaukee that brought guard Mo Williams to Cleveland.

The 6-foot-11, 255-pound Wright played 12 games for Atlanta and five for Sacramento last season, averaging less than a point and 2.1 rebounds.

Wright has averaged 8.1 points 6.5 rebounds in 761 career games.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Lorenzen Wright, Joe Smith, Memphis Grizzlies, Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings

Iranian Star Hamed Haddidi Signs with Memphis Grizzlies

So it’s official. After much to do about not allowing NBA teams to speak with Iranian star Hamed Haddidi, the Memphis Grizzlies have signed the free agent center.
The United States government reversed its decision to allow teams to speak with Haddidi, despite the disagreements between the US and Iranian government.
The 7’2” behemoth garnered a lot of attention from NBA scouts after posting some wonderful numbers in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Haddidi dropped a solid 16.6 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per contest in Beijing. Despite his team’s struggles, he was one of the best international players in the entire competition.
After spending last season playing in Iran’s first league, the 23-year-old will be making the jump to Memphis to join another international big man, Marc Gasol.
Although it is quite difficult to find information on the dynamic center, he has had his fair share of experience at the pro level. Sure, he is only 23, but he has been playing ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Memphis Grizzlies, Hamed Ehadadi

NBA players union suspends agent

The National Basketball Players Association suspended player agent Calvin Andrews for one year Friday for alleged recruiting improprieties regarding former Southern California star O.J. Mayo.

The union said its Disciplinary Committee has reserved the right to take further action against Andrews.

Mayo and Andrews, of Bill Duffy Associates, parted ways in May. Mayo, who played one season at USC and was drafted third overall by the Memphis Grizzlies, has denied receiving improper funds.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, O.J.
