The Denver Nuggets' preseason opener was a breeze. Next, they'll face a gust. The Nuggets dispatched the Minnesota Timberwolves 118-95 on Friday night, as reserve J.R. Smith finished with 21 points and Chris Andersen grabbed 11 boards. Now, they're off to Indian Wells, Calif., to play the Phoenix Suns on Saturday in the NBA's first outdoor basketball game in more than 35 years.

Carmelo has bruised ring finger; X-rays negative

Carmelo Anthony sat out the Denver Nuggets' preseason opener against Minnesota on Friday night because of a bruised left ring finger. Anthony was injured when he had the ball slapped out of his hand during practice Thursday. X-rays were negative. He attended Friday's shootaround with his hand wrapped, but did not participate. The 24-year-old averaged 25.7 points and a career-high 7.4 rebounds last season. He was a key member of the U.S. team that won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics.

Chris Baker and Langdon Perry were talking about Magic Johnson after bringing up the topic of health care isn't a basic right. Then Perry asked about certain diseases that can be treated by medicine throughout a lifetime. Then the two brought up Magic Johnson and Aids. Here's what was said. Baker responded, “Like Magic Johnson?” Perry replied, “Like Magic with his faked AIDS. Magic faked AIDS.” Baker said, “You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?” Perry replied, “I’m convinced that Magic faked AIDS.” “Me too,” Baker said. Apparently this was a conservative talk show but I don't think it matters what political affiliation these two dimwits are with. Perry and Baker show why ignorance does not equal bliss. 22 wins, 60 losses—I honestly wasn't surprised with how the Minnesota Timberwolves finished last season. Trading Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics was expected to make the T'Wolves one of the laughing stocks of the league. With the trade, Minnesota brought in Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, and Sebastian Telfair. Gerald Green was traded shortly after the All-Star break because apparently blowing out candles at an all-star dunk contest wasn't impressive enough for him to remain on the team. In the process, Minnesota received Kirk Snyder who started in 18 of his 27 games with the Wolves. Theo Ratliff was released mid-season as well, and later picked up by the Detroit Pistons. Ratliff was injured throughout the 2007-2008 season. For the players who remained on the team, they were apart of Minnesota's centerpiece. Minnesota Timberwolves forward Al Jefferson says he's "feeling wonderful" just a couple weeks after spraining his right knee during a workout with teammates. Jefferson was moving around fine during the team's media day on Monday and says he plans to do plenty of running and some light work when the team gathers in Mankato for training camp on Tuesday. But he probably won't be doing any contact drills for another week or two.
