Knicks Win the First-Ever Toilet Bowl in NJ

1:00 PM ET, November 21, 2009 IZOD Center East Rutherford, NJ Who says the NBA can't have bowl games? Today at the New Jersey Nets' own arena, the franchise reached an incredible milestone. This accomplishment has gone beyond mediocrity and the depths of NBA lottery hell. Today, the Nets faced their Atlantic division rivals, the New York Knicks. The game featured extremely sloppy plays and just plain bad basketball between the worst the NBA has to offer. Now I have never lied about this, but I'll say it again. As a guy that grew up 20 minutes away from New York City, I do have a soft spot for the teams in the area. That being said, I'm very unbiased and when a team is just plain bad, I say it. Saturday afternoon featured two teams that are atrocious. I can't describe it any other way. The Knicks should have beaten New Jersey by more than seven, as the final score was 98-91 . After all, the majority of their team is healthy, yet still 3-9 after Saturday. As for the Nets, now 0-13 ...

Devin Harris is expected to play Saturday, a sorely needed boost for the winless New Jersey Nets. A team spokesman says Harris will come off the bench Saturday when the Nets (0-12) host the New York Knicks. The All-Star point guard has missed 10 straight games with an injured right groin. He was originally hurt in the preseason, then reinjured the groin on Oct. 30 in the Nets' second game of the season.

Devin Harris will be back on the court tomorrow, when the Nets host the Knicks. Will winning return to the Meadowlands, too? There is no guarantee, of course. But Harris does give the Nets a better chance to pick up that elusive first win of the season. He's their leading scorer and will take some pressure off of other guys on the floor, like Brook Lopez and Chris Douglas-Roberts. Look for Harris to ease into his role, playing more in the second half tomorrow than he does in the first. In fact, he'll be coming on the bench and probably will return to starting when the Nets play at Denver on Tuesday. Regardless of how much he plays, Harris is just happy to be back. Let's face it, watching this team lose over the past 10 games could not have been easy for him. "I’m not made for a suit," he said, referring to his game-day attire over the past three weeks. Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut (BOH'-gut) will be out for two to four weeks with a left leg injury. General manager John Hammond said late Thursday that Bogut suffered a leg strain and contusion in Wednesday's 99-85 win against New Jersey. Bogut scored 21 points and 11 rebounds before leaving the game in late in the fourth quarter. An MRI revealed the injury on Thursday. The 24-year-old Bogut, now in his fifth season, is averaging 16.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.

A judge has indefinitely delayed a hearing in Somerville in which Williams was expected to plead guilty. No reason was given. A person with knowledge of the case told The Associated Press on Thursday that Williams would plead guilty to aggravated assault. The person wasn't authorized to talk about the case and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Allen Iverson isn't coming to the Knicks…at least for tonight that is. A person close to the talks between Iverson and the Knicks said that the club may wait until after this weekend's game against New Jersey and Boston before making a move. In the hours prior to Iverson clearing waivers last night, Donnie Walsh hinted that it was unlikely that the Knicks would sign the free agent guard before Friday. Could it be as simple as this: lose to the 0-12 Nets and Iverson joins the Knicks. Win and perhaps the Knicks hold off on signing him. It may sound crazy but there is a general feeling around the team that if the record was 4-7 and not 2-9 the Knicks wouldn't even be discussing Iverson.
