Dolan didn't want Iverson

Does anybody really believe that as Donnie Walsh was set to give the okay on Allen Iverson it suddenly dawned on him that Iverson has had a troubled past and that he could be create unwanted headaches in New York?

If you believe that then you also believe that Lenny Wilkens wasn’t really fired as Knicks coach a few years back he just simply resigned.

The Knicks dirty little secret is that Garden Chairman James Dolan is still very much in charge. Is he running the day-to-day operation of the Knicks? Absolutely not. But he did get involved in the decision not to sign Iverson.

As recently as Wednesday, Mike D’Antoni gave strong indications that he wanted Iverson, especially with Chris Duhon playing like a third string point guard. Not long after D’Antoni seemed to give the thumbs up to Iverson, Walsh reminded reporters that he would never add a player that the coach didn’t want.

So if D’Antoni wanted Iverson and Walsh clearly was leaning that way as well, why ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Allen Iverson, New York Knicks, James Dolan

All-Star Harris expected to play Saturday for Nets

Devin Harris is expected to play Saturday, a sorely needed boost for the winless New Jersey Nets.

A team spokesman says Harris will come off the bench Saturday when the Nets (0-12) host the New York Knicks.

The All-Star point guard has missed 10 straight games with an injured right groin. He was originally hurt in the preseason, then reinjured the groin on Oct. 30 in the Nets' second game of the season.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, New Jersey Nets, Devin Harris, New York Knicks

Not the solution, but could have been an Answer

There are two very good reasons why the Knicks are knuckleheads for passing on Allen Iverson. For one thing, they've fallen completely off the radar in New York. I've been following sports since about 1960 around here, and I can't remember a time when the Knicks were more irrelevant. For those of us who love the sport, it's a truly sad era. A few silly Iverson headlines could not have hurt.

The other reason was also important: The Knicks don't own their draft pick, because Isiah Thomas foolishly sent it away unprotected for Stephon Marbury. I will go to my grave believing that Thomas could have protected that pick if he insisted, but didn't even think it was necessary to negotiate for that concession because he was too prideful to foresee this franchise's complete collapse.

In any case, Iverson could have won a few extra games for the Knicks and it wouldn't have cost them any Ping-Pong balls in the draft. They've already thrown all their Ping-Pong balls at Marbury.

I guess now we go back to ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Brazil, New York Knicks, Allen Iverson, Italy, Germany

The New York Knicks have decided not to pursue Allen Iverson.

Team president Donnie Walsh said Friday the team won't make any additions at this time despite its 2-9 record. He added the decision to pass on the former MVP had nothing to do with Iverson's ability to play.

"I've always admired him," Walsh said. "I think he'd be a great addition for a team that's in a different position than we're in and I hope he gets picked up.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Allen Iverson, New York Knicks, Donnie Walsh

What's the Answer For the Knicks? Not Iverson...

The Knicks have problems.
In searching for solutions for an NBA team's struggles, one would inevitably stumble upon The Answer. The problem is that The Answer is really no answer at all. Just part of the same old solution that has failed the Knicks before and put them in the problem they are in now.
Confused? So are the Knicks if they think signing Iverson is a solution.
Admittedly, I have not seen the books for the Knicks. It is possible that they are just desperate to sell tickets for the remainder of this season. I am not convinced that Iverson does that, however, beyond the first several games he plays.
The Knicks have many problems, the most serious of which is image . The Knicks have earned a reputation for taking junk off of the scrap heap and an image of bringing in me first, offensive minded guards (i.e. Steve Francis, Stephon Marbury, etc.).
The Knicks are finally on the rebuilding and looking forward wagon. Signing AI would be a relapse of Isaiah like proportion.
They hired a ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA, Allen Iverson, New York Knicks

Center Brendan Haywood is having a stellar season, which has been nearly overshadowed by the Wizards' slow start. Michael Lee writes about that -- and previews the game against Etan Thomas and the Oklahoma City Thunder -- for today's newspaper. On the blog, he recounts how DeShawn Stevenson got inside LeBron James's head on Wednesday night. Dan Steinberg examines Earl Boykins's role in the return of Agent Zero and Boykins's uncanny strength. Not to mention the fact that Gilbert tweeted last night. At the Washington Times, Mike Jones says the team hopes the win can serve as a building block to a turnaround. Bullets Forever's Mike Prada offers a final wrap-up of Wednesday's win over the Cavaliers. Truth About it reminds us: Don't call it a statement. Around the League ... The New York Times and Newsday are reporting that the Knicks have dropped their pursuit of Allen Iverson. Last

Iverson talks in holding pattern

Allen Iverson isn't coming to the Knicks…at least for tonight that is.

A person close to the talks between Iverson and the Knicks said that the club may wait until after this weekend's game against New Jersey and Boston before making a move.

In the hours prior to Iverson clearing waivers last night, Donnie Walsh hinted that it was unlikely that the Knicks would sign the free agent guard before Friday.

Could it be as simple as this: lose to the 0-12 Nets and Iverson joins the Knicks. Win and perhaps the Knicks hold off on signing him. It may sound crazy but there is a general feeling around the team that if the record was 4-7 and not 2-9 the Knicks wouldn't even be discussing Iverson.
