Orlando Magic May Be "The Answer" for Allen Iverson

Allen Iverson may have found the answer he's been looking for, and it's better than he could have expected. Hours after the Memphis Grizzlies terminated Iverson's contract, Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee. Nelson is not expected to return for at least a month. The backup point guards for the Magic are not exactly spring chickens, nor are they truly solid options. Jason Williams takes over as the starter on Wednesday night, his 34th birthday. Williams retired after the 2007-08 season and has just returned to action this season in Orlando. Williams' first task is Oklahoma City, who features Russell Westbrook at the point. Westbrook lit up Nelson for 17 points and 10 assists. Now that LeBron James is keeping quiet about free agency, speculation is all we've got. It may seem a stretch to consider LeBron signing with the Orlando Magic, but is it really such an absurd notion? Surely winning is important to "King James," that's something that is almost a guaranteed with the reigning Eastern Conference champs. That is not going to be the case with the New York Knicks or New Jersey Nets, two teams in disarray. Certainly LeBron would like a legitimate running mate, not someone like Mo Williams or a 37-year-old Shaquille O'Neal. Michael Jordan had Scottie Pippen. Kobe Bryant had Shaq (in his prime). Magic Johnson had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The duo of LeBron James and Dwight Howard would be the best one-two punch in NBA history. Orlando knew they had a tough task on Wednesday night as the Cleveland Cavaliers came to town. In a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference Finals, the tables turned and the Cavs eased into a 102-93 victory. The Magic have been struggling of late, mostly due to injuries and suspension. PF Rashard Lewis is finishing up his 10 game suspension and will return next week. Ryan Anderson, who has filled in impressively for Lewis, will return from an ankle injury next week as well. Missing players, however, is no excuse for a poor showing at home. Poor defensive play seems to be a bigger problem, one not solved by the return of Lewis or Anderson. Jameer Nelson has been allowing opposing point guards to come up big against him. These overperforming guards aren't Chris Paul and Steve Nash-caliber guys either, but rather players like Raymond Felton and Russell Westbrook.
