Pacers Will Make Preseason Visit to Fort Wayne

For the first time in 10 years, the Indiana Pacers will play a preseason game in Fort Wayne, an early NBA home and now the host city of the D-League's Mad Ants. On Oct. 10, Indiana plays Chicago, its first game at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum since facing Toronto in 1998.

Gasol leads Spain into Olympic semis (AP)

Los Angeles Lakers center Pau Gasol scored 20 points to lead world champion Spain to a 72-59 win against Croatia Wednesday in men's basketball. Felipe Reyes added 13 points for Spain, while Toronto Raptors point guard Jose Calderon added 10. Gasol also had a game-high 10 rebounds. Marko Banic had 15 points to lead Croatia.

Spain downs Germany behind Gasol

Pau Gasol scored 13 points to help lead world champions Spain to a 72-59 victory over Dirk Nowitzki and Germany in Olympic basketball men's Group B play. Gasol, of the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, scored 13 points Thursday, while the Toronto Raptors' Jose Manuel Calderon led Spain with 15 points and Alex Mumbru shot 67 percent from the floor for 14 points, draining all three of his three pointers.

Remember all that hype surrounding the Raptors prior to the '07-08 season? Raps fans were buzzing about the '06-07 Atlantic Division champs. The season looked promising. A two-headed monster at PG (Ford and Calderon), a maturing Andrea Bargnani, and a more confident Chris Bosh were supposed to give the Celtics a run for their money as the leaders of the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately, the season turned into one of turmoil and disappointment—to say the least. Colangelo and Co. had to come up with a new plan for '08-09—and although there are many skeptics, there is reason to hype up this season again. The acquisition of Jermaine O'Neal is an interesting one. When he says he's here to support the team and help them win, I hope he means it. It's a tenuous link, considering the Toronto Raptors star was born, and still makes his off-season home, in Dallas. But with the red and white still reeling from an unsuccessful qualification attempt, hoopheads north of the border can turn their lonely eyes to Bosh when the Olympic basketball tournament kicks off Aug. 9 (Day 2). His hometown notwithstanding, Canucks could do a lot worse than pulling for the likable Bosh, whose multifaceted game could make him a star for the U.S. team at his first Olympics. He's the perfect international player,' Leo Rautins, a Raptors colour man and the head coach of Canada's ill-fated national team, told CBCSports.ca.
