Point-less The condemnations of Ohio State's Evan Turner as a point guard began trickling in after his first rough game at the position — a game in which he scored 23 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and passed for four assists, by the way. Goodness. If that's the curve these folks are using to grade Turner, I'm glad none of them taught me at Point Park College. Faced with excellent defensive pressure from Ginyard — and a Roy Williams game plan that collapsed big defenders around him on every penetration — Turner turned over the ball 10 times. It wasn't a good performance. He came back Friday, though, and put 26 points, 14 rebounds and six assists on California, while turning over the ball four times. Well, so much for the Washington State Cougars playing above their heads. So much for the 32 degree weather in Pullman, WA getting to the UCLA Bruins. And so much for Rick Neuheisel's bunch playing down to the Cougars' level. The Bruins handled things very nicely, going up to the Palouse and taking care of Washington State, 43-7, in a game that was well in hand virtually from the start. So much so that they were able to do something they've seldom been able to do: Clear their bench in the fourth quarter and give reserves such as quarterback Nick Crissman, a true freshman, playing time. It was, as Neuheisel said, "A luxury that we don't overlook." Kevin Prince had another solid performance in completing 27 of 40 passes for 314 yards and a touchdown, plus a 68-yard run for a score in the second quarter. Fullback Chane "The Train" Moline bulled his way to three rushing touchdowns from short distance, as well as catch seven passes for 60 yards, and Taylor Embree had six catches for 73 yards ...

Sporting News staff reports Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson defended senior QB Danny Sullivan this week, telling reporters that Sullivan "didn't play so bad (against USC) that you're going to yank him." "I made the change because I wanted to get some energy on offense, which Brock (Osweiler) brought to us," Erickson told reporters. Erickson hasn't announced a starter for this week's game against Oregon. "I've got to do what gives us the best chance to win," Erickson said, according to The Arizona Republic. Have we seen this story before? The story that I am referencing is a senior quarterback who is struggling, and the fans calling for a youthful look to the future. Last season in Tempe, Senior gunslinger Rudy Carpenter was booed constantly, during games and even while he was winning consistently at Arizona State. But Carpenter's fiery mentality and tough guy attitude was not enough when the Sun Devils struggled last season to a 5-7 record. During the late stages of the season, Danny Sullivan was the quarterback that the fans wanted to see taking meaningful snaps. Now jump to 2009, the senior quarterback who is struggling is Sullivan, and the youthful an inexperienced Brock Osweiler is the one that the maroon and gold clad fans are chanting for constantly. Well, in the USC game on Saturday, the fans season-long wish was granted. Brock Osweiler entered the game on a third and goal play, following a Sullivan knee injury. Goodbye Danny Sullivan! Thanks for your effort, and thanks for trying! Now, Meet Brock Osweiller, the future of Arizona State football. After a dismal first half which included a Cameron Marshall fumble that undoubtedly cost us points, a Danny Sullivan pick six, and another Danny Sullivan interception in which he attempted a Tim Tebow jump pass that had me rolling, Brock Osweiller was brought into the game, down 14-3, to a large ovation and a sigh of relief from the Arizona State faithful. Shortly after entering the game, Brock Osweiller led the Devils on an eight play/80 yard drive that culminated in a Touchdown pass to WR Chris Mcgaha and effectively earned him the starting spot as Quarterback for Arizona State. This closed the gap on USC to 14-9 but no other points would be scored and Arizona State would fall to USC later.
