College Football Week Two Pops and Drops, the New Top 25

The second week of the College Football season has just ended. Here's a look at the teams that popped in the rankings and those that dropped.

 POPS
In the top 10, Oklahoma with a convincing win over Cincinatti pops from No. 4 to No. 3, Texas pops from seventh to sixth, Missouri pops from No. 8 to No. 7, and Kansas pops from 13th to 10th after shutting out Louisiana Tech, 29-0.
In the second 10, Wisconsin pops from No. 15 to No. 11, previously unranked East Carolina pops into the No. 12 slot with its 24-3 upset thrashing of West Virginia, Oregon pops from 17th to 13th, Penn State from 21st to 15th, Arizona State from No. 20 to No. 17, and California pops into the No. 20 slot from No. 23.
In the Nos. 21-25 spots, we saw just one pop: Illinois bouncing back from its trouncing last week at the hands of Missouri to defeat Eastern Illinois, 47-21, and pop from No. 25 to No. 23.

 DROPS
Oklahoma leapfrogged an idle LSU (its game with Troy was postponed), and the Tigers ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Missouri Tigers, West Virginia Mountaineers, Penn State Nittany Lions, Arizona State Sun Devils, Ohio State Buckeyes

ASU looks to continue Stanford mastery (AP)

Arizona State has swept the last two games against Stanford by a combined 79-6. Coach Dennis Erickson thinks that's irrelevant as his 15th-ranked Sun Devils prepare to face the Cardinal in Sun Devil Stadium on Saturday night. "They have just improved in every area from a year ago," said Erickson, who led ASU to a 41-3 romp in Palo Alto last season.

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Arizona State Sun Devils, Dennis Erickson

Be Happy, Pac-10 Fans—But Don't Get Carried Away This Early

After Tennessee’s devastating loss to the Pac-10 for the second year in a row, like all other unbiased SEC fans (snicker), I came to the realization that the Pac-10 is a bit better than I thought.
Pac-10 fans eagerly want inclusion in the "top conference discussions"—and as far as the head to head matchups go against the best, they might deserve it.
I am struggling to comprehend why, though, some Pac-10 fans are declaring their conference to be the best, based on victories over the suggested best, the SEC.
A couple of articles that I’ve noticed have the Pac-10 at the top. I think we need to take a second to look at the polls—and what conference dominates them—in order to better understand this misunderstanding.
When looking at the top 10 teams in the AP and USA Today polls, I notice the SEC has by far the most teams with four. The Pac-10, on the other hand, has one—the USC Trojans, number one after week one.
Further down the list you'll find ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Arizona State Sun Devils

Pac-10 Week Two: Penn State, BYU Are Biggest Challengers

Finally! The college football season is underway, and we look ahead to Week Two with great anticipation—but not before we take a look back at how the Pac-10 fared in Week One.
Week One featured USC throttling Virginia on the road, Oregon blowing out an under-prepared Washington team, and Stanford surprising many with their win over Oregon State.
Arizona and Arizona State beat up on Idaho and Northern Arizona respectively, and Oklahoma State took care of Washington State convincingly.
California beat Big Ten visitor Michigan State, and UCLA provided an amazing end to what was a very successful week one for the Pac-10, beating No. 18 Tennessee in the Rose Bowl.
The Pac-10 went 5-1 in non-conference matchups, a very good start considering the competition.
Week Two won't be as glamorous as Week One. BYU and Penn State are the biggest names on the schedule. BYU is tied at No. 15 in the AP with Arizona State, while Penn State is right behind them at No. 19.
Utah State ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Penn State Nittany Lions, Arizona State Sun Devils
