For Alabama 1. There was talk of Auburn stealing our hand signals in last week's game and quotes from the Auburn players would tend to confirm that it did in fact happen. So there has been some work on changing those just in case Auburn wanted the "share" that information as they have before. 2. Inserting some new plays on offense is always a good idea and last week the Mark Ingram pass was a good example. Alabama will have something new to show Florida this week that they hope they haven't prepared for. 3. Focusing the energy is the key to this game. Both teams have the horsepower to win this game. Looking a little deeper at the West Virginia win over ninth-ranked Pittsburgh is essential to understanding the current state of the Mountaineer football program. Here are the good points WVU is 8-3, and fans are disappointed. When I was in college back during the Paleolithic era in 1975, the Mounties were 8-3, went to the Peach Bowl, and we were giddy. Expectations have risen that much, and that isn't anything but good. West Virginia wins ugly, but wins indeed. South Florida kicked Mountaineer booty, but WVU played ugly games and was in those games at Auburn and Cincinnati until the end. There were more tears on the West Virginia sidelines after last week's Pittsburgh game than at an all-women's Autumn in New York festival. It was not exactly what you would call expected, but it was possible. With Auburn's loss to Alabama on Friday, the Tigers were 7-5, but were still looking at a pretty good bowl game because at least two SEC foes should finish 6-6 after South Carolina loses to Clemson and Georgia fell to Georgia Tech. But the SEC proved to be the superior conference over the ACC on Saturday when both South Carolina and Georgia upended the two teams that will play for the ACC title. And that put a few flies in the ointment when looking at the bowl picture. Here is a list of teams that are 7-5: Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee. Where does that put these five football teams come the bowl season? Let's look at the overall picture and see if placing them is possible. History is the best way to place teams into bowl games. As like the rest of the Auburn family, watching that last minute touchdown by Alabama made my stomach turn sour. Watching the final Hail Mary get knocked down to seal the deal for Alabama made me realize it would be another 364 days before Auburn has another shot. I will begin this article by giving my respect to the Auburn Tigers and Gene Chizik. They could not have been coached better, and they could not have played with more heart than they did against a VERY good Alabama team. They came out and ran many trick plays that brought success, and left Alabama with a fourteen point deficit five minutes into the game. Their fans remained in the game for all four quarters, and played a big part in their success. I owe that to the Auburn Tigers, they shocked the nation Now, on to the team that took a bullet to the chest, but was able to tough it out and get the victory. No screams of "Go To Hell, Alabama!" after the game, and everyone (apart from 10,000-20,000 Alabama fans who made the trip to Jordan Hare Stadium) went home a little bit sad. Colt McCoy could be in lead for Heisman

I just finished watching Texas' 49-39 ESPN televised victory over Texas A and M tonight at Kyle Field in College Station. All I can say is, WOW. Longhorns' senior quarterback Colt McCoy made a huge Heisman statement on Thanksgiving evening, passing for 304 yards and 4 touchdowns and rushing for 175 yards in 18 carries and scoring a 65-yard touchdown in this wild game. The 'Horns are now 11-0 and are a win over Nebraska in the Big 12 title game from playing for the national title. Aggies' quarterback Jerrod Johnson was just as spectacular,throwing for 342 yards and four touchdowns in this shootout. This is the type of game that could push McCoy, who is the hottest quarterback in the country over the last six games, ahead of Alabama running back Mark Ingram in the race for the Heisman. Ingram will get a chance to show his stuff today against SEC instate rival Auburn.
