Congrats, UConn, you're the best! The Big East is oh so very proud of you. Anyone who loves college football should be so very proud of you. You showed us what heart and persistence are all about. You took down mighty Notre Dame and you did it in such stunning fashion. You did it under such very difficult circumstances. You got it, 33-30, double overtime. SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Connecticut finally won one for their slain teammate, beating Notre Dame on senior day and handing Fighting Irish coach Charlie Weis another bitter defeat. Andre Dixon scored on a 4-yard touchdown run in the second overtime to give the Huskies a 33-30 victory, their first win since cornerback Jasper Howard was stabbed to death. The loss was the third straight for Notre Dame (6-5) and will add to the mounting calls for Weis to be fired. The Irish led 14-0 early in the second quarter but didn't score another touchdown until the first overtime. The Huskies (5-5) had lost three straight painfully close games since Howard was killed. This time they made the plays at the end to win in dramatic fashion. Jordan Todman ran for 130 yards on 26 carries, including a 43-yard TD run for UConn. He also added a 96-yard kickoff return. ND-UCONN Has Me Torn Apart

Firstly, let me just say that I will be happy if either team wins (BLASPHEMY!), given what happened to UCONN this year. With the dawn of the UCONN game roughly 24 hours away, I can say that I am nervous about this one. UCONN fields a very competitive team that has had some tough losses on the field this year. I also feel that they will be much more motivated than our team. I can only hope and pray, as an ND fan, that they won't pull another "Navy Look-Ahead" (as to the PITT game), and then end up blowing it tomorrow. Given that a very tough Stanford team is coming up, I think that this is quite a possibility. If they already have their sights set on Stanford, then they're in for trouble when the second sniper they missed sights them. Said sniper being UCONN. Add to all of this the fact that this UCONN team gets a chance to travel to one of the most famous campuses in college football, and play in one of the best stadiums ever constructed. Me thinks they may be ready to play! Well, we'll see ...

But even with three wins in a row, this UConn squad is continuing to worry Husky fans. For the past three games, the Huskies have struggled to get consistent play out of anyone on their team. Like the chances of winning the Powerball grand prize, for a long time I never thought I would use the nine words in the title of this article to describe a UConn Huskies football game. From the years of Division I-AA play in the old Yankee Conference, to the Huskies first few years in Division one as an independent, a game against a national powerhouse at possibly the mecca of college football was akin to rooting for a Detroit Lions Super Bowl victory.. As a fan of college football it is almost impossible to overlook what the UConn Husky football program has been through this season. As a human being it is almost impossible to comprehend. After losing a beloved person and player in cornerback Jasper Howard, the college football world was touched by the way the team came together and moved forward. Although I am not a fan of the Huskies, there was something inside me that prayed this college, this program, and this team would be able to do something special in honor of their fallen brother. Sadly, this team has had to endure heart-breaking losses since the death of Jasper Howard. As if a hate-filled, on-campus stabbing was not enough, fate decided that this team would lose West Virginia, Rutgers, and Cincinnati by a total of 10 points. Even before the death of their teammate, the Huskies couldn't catch a break. They also came up short against two other teams by a total of five points.
