We were all horrified on Saturday watching Cal's Jahvid Best hurdle through the air and land squarely on his back with such force his helmet popped off like a cork out of a champagne bottle. We all feared he may be paralyzed, possibly permanently. Then came the good news. He has movement in all extremities, although he sustained a concussion. Then we hear that he had a concussion the previous week. Wait, what? He had a concussion, when? The previous week? When Tim Tebow had a concussion against Kentucky, what did we hear for TWO WEEKS?? Each week, I will update my BCS and January bowl projections. Here goes round one. BCS National Championship: Florida vs. Texas As has been predicted all season, Florida and Texas will likely meet for the BCS National Championship. Texas's cupcake schedule leaves relatively no challenges ahead, and Florida's only remaining hurdle looks to be Alabama in the SEC Championship game. Both teams have looked much better in recent weeks and this could make for a very interesting National Championship. Fedex Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. Cincinnati The Orange Bowl looks like another yawner for the second year in a row and may be the least intriguing match-up of all the January Bowls. Both teams are solid, but neither are spectacular, and while Georgia Tech is highly overrated, it shouldn't have much of a problem knocking off an overrated Big East Champion. Alabama beat LSU 24-15 in a game that could only be described as a monumental battle of wills Alabama is the SEC Western Division Champion again and is headed to Atlanta to play the Florida Gators in the SEC Championship game. In a game that seemed more like a war of attrition, Alabama and LSU players were helped off the field on almost every play. That battle was won by Alabama as LSU lost their starting Quarterback, Running Back, two top Linemen, and their best Defensive Back all to injuries Saturday in Bryant-Denny. It seemed as though there was a LSU player laying on the field motionless after almost every big play. Let's say you have two teams in your conference highly praised in the preseason. Getting into a bowl game, specifically the BCS Championship, means about $15 million dollars from the bowl system, and countless more from merchandising, TV contracts, and future wealth to be accumulated by getting into the BCS Championship. If you're in a conference like the Pac-10 or Big-10, you have to play every other team, but if you were in a conference that has two divisions, you could fix the games so that your conference championship was between two undefeated teams. You wouldn't even have to work that hard. Pick the best team from each division, and simply pay the refs to make sure that team wins. If you guarantee that your conference championship is between two undefeated teams, you can guarantee that you will have at least one team in the BCS Championship, giving your conference $15 million dollars in BCS money and a large additional sum from merchandising and TV contract revenue. Urban Meyer was fined $30,000 on Friday for violating SEC bylaw 10.5.4 when he publicly criticized an official for missing what Meyer felt should have been a personal foul on Georgia player Nick Williams for a late hit on star quarterback Tim Tebow. SEC commissioner Mike Slive said, "Coach Meyer has violated the Southeastern Conference code of ethics. SEC bylaw 10.5.4 clearly states that the coaches, players and support personnel shall refrain from public criticism of officials. The league's athletics directors and presidents and chancellors have made it clear that negative public comments on officiating are not acceptable." The SEC has been under public scrutiny this year because officials have made some highly controversial calls and non-calls. The Georgia Bulldogs (4-4) have four left to play. Two is the magic number. The Bulldogs have to win two in order to become bowl eligible. The schedule reads Tennessee Tech, Auburn, Kentucky, and the propeller heads. Winning two, unfortunately, is no given at this point. Given that the ball "hasn't bounced our way" and our coaches are not tracking how the ball bounces as a statistic, I am quite concerned. With so much riding on how the ball bounces, I am afraid the randomness of it all doesn't bode well for us. Alright, This Is Getting Ridiculous

A while ago I actually heard an analyst on ESPN say that what Brandon Spikes did to Washaun Ealey was assault and should be treated as such. Really? He said this was NOT football and it's no different then if it had happened at a movie theatre. WOW! Quick, somebody dig up all the old Trevor Matich footage and let's see how many dirty moves he pulled in his career. I'll guarantee you he didn't make Notre Dame's starting offensive line by being a gentleman. So Trev, I guess using your logic baseball pitchers should be charged with assault with a deadly weapon for throwing at a hitter who digs in at the plate a little too comfortably or stares at his home run? I guess race car drivers who utilize the "chrome horn" and cause a wreck should be charged with reckless driving? Fist fights are "part of the game" in hockey. But try this on one for size: Vanderbilt head coach Bobby Johnson admitted Monday that he actually didn't think too much of the future Heisman winner the first time his team lined up against him.
