Iowa Defensive Back David Cato Injured in Car Accident

Iowa sophomore safety David Cato was involved in a two-vehicle collision around 10:00 a.m this past Sunday, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrolmen.
As tweeted by Marc Morehouse from the Cedar Rapids Gazette , the Purcell Register reported that Cato, along with Iowa State cornerback Ter'ran Denton, were traveling southbound when their vehicle bumped an 18-wheeler, sending the car into an embankment on the side of the interstate.
Thankfully, both Cato and Denton were wearing their seat belts, according to reports.
Cato was treated for minor injuries at Purcell Municipal Hospital and released shortly after. Denton was transported to Norman Regional Hospital with a head injury.
There is no indication of how serious and extensive his head injury is.
The two men are friends from their days at Summit High School in Arlington, Texas, and were likely heading home to celebrate the holidays.
"They were real lucky," Patrolman Chris Bonny told the Purcell Register . "They were two ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Football, Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones

Conference Call: Oklahoma State on the rise in Big 12

Each week, Sporting News' Matt Hayes ranks the Division I-A conferences—and the teams within each league.
5. Big 12
1. Texas
2. Nebraska
3. Oklahoma State
4. Texas Tech
5. Oklahoma
6. Missouri
7. Kansas State
8. Texas A&M
9. Iowa State
10. Kansas
11. Baylor
12. Colorado
Rising
Oklahoma State: 'Pokes better hope QB Zac Robinson is ready to play this weekend in Bedlam, considering what's on the line: beating Oklahoma for first time since 2002 and earning a BCS bid.
Falling
Baylor: Bears have been lost on the field since the injury to star QB Robert Griffin. The change in quarterbacks hurt; the loss of leadership was even worse.

Unhappy at Iowa State, Wesley Johnson transferred to Syracuse and has become a vital player. Never was that more evident than when he led the Orange past UNC, says Seth Davis.

3-Pointers: Cyclones making noise on offense

Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy analyzes what Thursday's buzz means to college basketball.
Rock you like a Cyclone
Iowa State is averaging 83.3 points per game, which seems a little like Taylor Swift covering a Black Sabbath tune.
The Cyclones topped 80 only once last season, but their increased potency has meant star forward Craig Brackins no longer carrying the entire burden of the offense.
"If I'm a distraction every game and I get double-teamed and that leaves somebody open—that's been a fun thing to see," Brackins said. "It takes a lot off of my shoulders. Last year, I was exhausted after certain games. It's a relief for me, and it's more fun."
Brackins' early scoring average is at 15.3, down about 5 points, but don't read too much into that. In the team's biggest victory to date, over Drake, he went for 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Under cover
There are so many college basketball games that it's easy for some important ones to get lost in the ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NCAA Basketball, Iowa State Cyclones, North Carolina State Wolfpack
